It was difficult to find a 1911 trigger that worked. It became much easier in the 1980s. It got even simpler in the 1990s. It’s now simple. We used to stone parts. We then bought better parts. Later, we purchased the best. We no longer have to time the parts. Enter the Nighthawk Custom Drop In Trigger System (DTS). They took the packet trigger idea, and made it work for the 1911. Your sear and hammer engagement will not be as good as you think. Nighthawk Custom took our time fitting and stoning. They then wrap the entire thing in a sleeve, and attach it to the frame. This ensures that the exact engagement they created is preserved. The holes for the packet are just large enough to allow it to “float” in the frame. Their relationship with each other is never in doubt. Everything is fine. Well, almost everything. Nighthawk has a special grip safety spring that works with the packet design. The packet’s internal spring action handles the rest. You will still need to attach a thumb safety. The trigger pull is easy to do, but the thumb safety must still be fitted. It’s much easier than the work involved in stoning sears or hammer hooks. It’s a small price to pay to have a clean, crisp trigger pull. Good trigger jobs are not easy or cheap. Although the Nighthawk drop-in price of $300 seems high, I priced the complete set of parts required for a 1911 trigger job (that will still require some fitting or tuning), and they easily cost $100. I was reminded of a radio commercial that cost $300. However, I priced the complete set of parts needed for a 1911 trigger job (that will still require some fitting and tuning) at $100. I am reminded of a radio advertisement I heard years ago. I couldn’t help but to change it for this: “It is my trigger job, and it’s mine now.” Storm Tactical’s impressive target pack contains 62 printable targets for rifle and handgun range usage.
