March 25, 2022.22 LR Trainer — Building a Top Flight Rig
Brian, a GA Precision gunsmith, built this rimfire-rig with Anthony Soukup, a GAP colleague. Bryan Sikes, a Tactical competitor, posted a photo on his Facebook page of a rimfire-rig we really liked. Brian works at GA Precision. This rifle was built by him and Anthony Soukup, a GAP gunsmith. This rifle features top-quality components from stem to stern, including a modified Rem 40X, Manners stock and Bartlein barrel. Bryan says that this rifle is as reliable as it looks. It’s amazing. It’s exactly the same length as my regular comp rigs, with the barrel length and can. This 40X is a great training tool. It has a length, balance, ergonomics, and ergonomics that are almost identical to Bryan’s centerfire competition rifles. o Modified Remington40X Action

o Bushnell DMR2 Scope with G3 Reticle Many readers were interested in the bottom metal and the removable box magazine. Bryan Sike explains: “The magazine set-up was designed to replicate my actual competition rifles. The bottom metal can be used with AI magazines. It uses a standard M5 type of inlet, just like any centerfire rifle. Mike Bush created a reliable rimfire magazine with the same dimensions as an AI magazine in this instance. This rifle was made exactly the same as any other. The action was modified, barreled, barreled and fully bedded. All components are common to centerfire match rifles. Modacam Custom Rifles modified the Rem 40X action to work with box mags as a repeater. Bryan says that a new rimfire rifle action is in development. Both of these are TRUE repeaters, and they don’t feed from Savage magazines. This rifle is not comparable to a.22 LR, and that was the whole point. “Why you need a.22 LR tactical cross-trainerMany long-range tactical match shooters practice with.22 LR rifles in a similar configuration. Rimfire ammo costs less than centerfire and you don’t need a large range facility. Additionally, shooting rimfire will save your centerfire rifle from wear and tear. A.22LR is a great training tool for learning how the wind works. I used to shoot 200 rounds of.308 Match ammunition per month for training (50 per week). I now shoot an average of 50 rounds per month of.308 Win and 600 rounds of the.22LR. I did not lose my standings in actual competitions by using mainly the.22 LR as a practice round. My.308 shot just as well in matches but saved hundreds of rounds of the.308. I saved hundreds of rounds of.308. by shooting my.308 in matches, but it was not worth the cost of reloading. Money saved is money earned.Targets for Rimfire Cross-TrainingSPECIAL BONUS-Rimfire Tactical Precision Targets These FREE targets by DesertFrog are offered in Adobe Acrobat format for easy printing.
