6 Shotguns for Home Defense at SHOT Show 20022 Fit Every Preference

FREE GUN FRIDAY: ENTER FOR A CHANCE TO WIN Smith & Wesson M&P M2.0. Caldwell Target, Steiner Optics Micro Pistolsight, and a Viktos gift certificate! Close I am always amazed by the new and exciting things at the SHOT show every year. I was able to see the best of the industry at work by wandering through the many displays. It is all very interesting but I find myself still looking for things that are more in line with my interests. Home defense shotguns are at the top of this list. RELATED STORY: The RIA USA VRF14 Semi-Automatic shotgun in 5+1 12-Gauge 6 Home Defence Shotguns at SHOT Show 2020. Many people view shotguns as outdated or archaic when it comes home defense. Shotguns are an excellent home defense weapon, and I can confirm that. Their effectiveness in close-quarter situations can’t be matched. It is a great choice because of the variety of designs available. Despite the chaos of the past year, there are many new home defense shotguns worth a closer inspection. Let’s now take a look at some highlights from SHOT Show. American Tactical Bulldog The Bull Dog is first from American Tactical. The Bulldog is a semi-automatic tactical shotgun that shoots smoothly in 12-gauge. It is a bullpup design and features quick-acquisition flip-up sights and an AR-style charging handle. The cheek rest can also be adjusted. There are Picatinny rails and M-Lok rails. The Picatinny on the lower can hold a spare magazine. This spare can also be used as a foregrip. The gun is a Turkish import through American Tactical. It has a MSRP of $469.99. AmericanTactical.us has more information. Savage Arms Blaster The next item on my list is a Savage Arms blaster. Savage has a new line called Renegauge, and they have added a personal defense model to that line-up. The Renegauge Security is a 12-gauge gun that uses the Dual Regulating Inline Valve. It is a reliable system that cycles shells from 23/4 to 3 inches without any gas adjustments. It is 18.5 inches long, making it easier to use inside the home. The gun can hold six rounds and can also be used to carry an additional shell carrier. The large controls allow for easy operation in low-light conditions. Individual users can adjust the length of pull, pitch, heel/toe drop, comb height, and heel/toe rise to meet their needs. This shotgun was available for me to test drive at SHOT Show Range Day. It is everything you would expect from Savage. MSRP: $1,499. SavageArms.com has more information. Mossberg 590S Mossberg is a long-standing favorite shotgun manufacturer. Mossberg has been a reliable producer of quality scatterguns over the past decades. Their booth was open this year for me to take a closer look at their new 590S. This gun is very versatile in shooting, as it can cycle standard shells upto three inches and the popular mini shells. The Mossberg 500 pump-action platform is the basis of the 590S. The gun features non-binding twin action bars, positive steel-tosteel lockup and anti-jam lift; dual extractors; drilled-and-tapped receivers and universally recognized top-mounted safety. The 590S series includes a black synthetic stock and forend, a cylinder bore barrel matte silver metal finish, sling swivel screws, and engraved receivers on all models. The gun is now available on shelves at a MSRP of $623.00. For more information, visit Mossberg.com. Armscor VRF14 Next is something a little different. The Armscor VRF14 is a 12 gauge magazine-fed “firearm.” It is also equipped with a pistol grip. This unique 12-gauge semiautomatic shotgun is intended for home defense. The VRF14’s 14-inch barrel and 26-inch overall length make it ideal for use in tight areas and inside vehicles. The tactical sling’s rear attachment further expands its operational range. This shotgun is aggressive and features flip-up sights. It has a Picatinny rail running along the receiver’s top. Other red dots can be mounted in conjunction with it. The polymer handguard has other rails that are different in length. The receiver is made from 7075 aluminum. The gun unloaded weighs in at 6.6 pounds. The Armscor VRF14 comes with a 5-+1 round box magazine. However, if you need additional firepower, you can use the 9 or 19-round magazines from the Armscor VR series. It is well worth taking a look at, with a MSRP of just $599. Armscor.com has more information. Genesis Arms Gen-12 Building shotguns on an AR-style platform is becoming more popular in recent years. The Gen-12 shotgun by Genesis Arms was my favorite in this category. This is basically a 12-gauge shotgun mounted on an AR-10 platform. Anyone who uses an AR will feel at home with this gun. You can purchase the gun as a complete gun, or as an upper receiver. The Gen-12 has a short recoil system, and is magazine fed. This allows for quick reloads and allows for extra ammunition. It features a free-float handguard, with M-LOK rails at 3, 6, and 9 o’clock, as well as full Picatinny toprail. You can get an AR that is 12-gauge round familiar if you drop the MSRP to $2449 and grab one. GenesisArms.com has more information. Mossberg 590S Shockwave This is the last gun I will highlight. It comes back to one our former companies, Mossberg. Although I don’t consider myself a fan, I appreciate their desire for solid guns that are affordable to everyone. Mossberg’s now-famous Shockwave was released in 2017. It was a “firearm” and not a shotgun, which caused a lot of buzz. The gun was a huge success, despite its official nomenclature. Since then, they have offered several versions of the gun. Mossberg has launched the 590S Shockwave this year. This launch is parallel to the full-size 590S I mentioned above. The gun can now carry mini shells measuring 1.75 inches. This significantly increases the ammo count to 8+1. The gun’s short barrel of 14.3 inches makes it easy to use and a reliable performer for close-range defense. It is an affordable addition for your gun safe, with a MSRP of $623. Mossberg.com has more information. It would take hundreds of pages to look at all the guns in this group. These are just a few of the many interesting and new guns. It is worth noting that I was privy to a few projects in the shotgun industry. Keep checking back for more! Sign up for the Personal Defense World newsletter today to stay in the loop!
