6mm Creedmoor Load Data from Sierra, plus PRS Load Links

NOTE: The SAAMI has now officially specified the 6mm Creedmoor. It is not a wildcat anymore. Click here to download the Sierra Bullets 6mm Creedmoor Load Data PDF >> Sierra Bullets published load data for its 6mm Creedmoor, a necked down version of the popular Creedmoor. Sierra Bullets has released a very comprehensive set of 6mm Creedmoor loads, which covers fifteen (15) different bullets ranging from 55 to 110 grams. Sierra’s 6mm Creedmoor loads were tested using Hornady brass, not the stronger, newer Lapua 6.5 CM Brass with small primer pocket. Hand-loaders who use Lapua 6.5 Creedmoor Brass necked down to 6mm might have to adjust their load. Sierra writes: “As early as 2007, when the 6.5 Creedmoor cartridge was released, a 6mm version of it was envisioned. After the 6mm Creedmoor proved its worth at 1,000 yards, it began to attract the attention of Precision Rifle Series competitors. The 6mm Creedmoor cartridge is an excellent choice for AR platform users. It has velocities that are very similar to.243 Win, but fits the AR10 mag length[.] The 30-degree shoulder helps make this case very efficient and prolongs the life of the case. For heavier bullet weights, the 6mm Creedmoor is best suited to powders like H4350, RE-16, RE-17, Ramshot Hunter, and Ramshot Hunter. Powders that are a little faster, such as RE-15 and Win 760, or Vihtavuori’s N540, work well with lighter bullets.

Sierra tested two dozen propellants in total to develop its 6mm Creedmoor loads. Fast-burning powders like Benchmark, CFE223 and H4895 were tested for the smaller bullets. Sierra tested a variety of powders with medium burn rates for the heavier bullets over 100 grains, including H4350 and Reloder 16, Reloder 17 and Varget. Sierra did an excellent job. We know that 6mm Creedmoor users will welcome this information. Not sure what powder to start with? If you are looking for the best accuracy with low ES/SD and want to use Hodgdon or Alliant Reloder 16 for the 107-110 grain Bullets, our Forum members suggest Alliant Reloder 16 or Hodgdon. If you want maximum velocity with the 110 grain bullet, check out Hodgdon Reloder 19 and Superformance. Sierra’s 6mm Creedmoor Load Charts are available for 90-95 grain, 107gr and 110gr bullets. There are also five tables for bullet types other than 90-95 grain. BONUS: PRB Load Survey for 6mm Creedmoor & 6.5 Creedmoor The Precision Rifle Blog has compiled Load Data collected from PRS Competitors. This is a great place to start. PRB surveyed match loads for 173 of the best precision rifle shooters across the country. One cautionary note: The PRS guys might be loading pretty hot. Work up gradually, 0.3 grain at a time.
