A 15-Year-Old St. Louis Man Proves That Gun Control Doesn’t Work

If this were a screenplay against gun controls, this story would have been even better. It contains black markets, illegally modified guns, stolen guns and an inept justice system. There are also shootouts, drive-bys and evading law enforcement. It has it all, and it is quite frankly. It also shows why gun control isn’t working.

This is a perfect example of why gun control doesn’t work

In case you didn’t notice, there was a gunfight at the City Foundry in St. Louis on Saturday night. Three juveniles and unidentified suspects were involved in the altercation, which took place in a white Honda Accord.

St. Louis Metropolitan Police was investigating reports of multiple vehicle break-ins at the City Foundry parking lot. They heard gunshots from the same area while investigating. According to the officers, a white Honda Accord was travelling westbound on Foundry Way. It then turned southbound onto Vandeventer.

According to officers, a passenger leaning over the car’s roof fired shots in their direction. Three juvenile boys were also nearby. A window in the vehicle where the officers were standing was shattered just moments later. One officer claimed that he heard several rounds “whiz past their left ear.”

The Honda left the scene and the three juveniles fled from officers. They were able to capture the youths and take them into their custody. It was then that it became obvious why they were running.

KMOV St. Louis reports that a 15-year old boy was found with a Glock 29 equipped to an auto sear. This gun made it fully automatic. A stolen Glock 19 was found in the possession of a 16-year-old boy.

Released to their Parents

Wait, what? Yes, that’s right. Police reached out to the Juvenile Court for guidance after the incident. The answer was: The answer is:

We have an illegally altered firearm and a stolen firearm. It is possible to illegally discharge a firearm (right past police officers) and evade arrest. This qualifies you for release right now. Release to their parents, who clearly are not part of the solution.

Tina Pihl (17th Ward Alderwoman) told KMOV that it was scary. I was scared when I saw the article.

The device found on the handgun of the 15-year old is currently illegal. St. Louis reported a 500% increase in black market devices. U.S. Attorney Sayler Fleming stated that her office aggressively pursues those who are found with illegal devices. She acknowledges that criminals are responsible for their use.

Fleming stated that anyone who plans to use a firearm with one of these devices while they’re selling drugs or committing violence crimes as defined by the law will be subject to a mandatory minimum. “That’s not lower than 30 years in prison.”

Why were the juveniles released to parents? Evidently, the federal laws that apply to a 15-year old accused of possessing such weapons are not applicable.

Missouri has an assessment form that scores many factors and assigns a score. A score of 15 or more should result in detention.

Take a look at the 3-A section of the form. It states “…unlawful felonious possession or use a firearm or explosive device.” This equals 15 by itself. This one offense was enough to warrant detention. Why was he sent home?

Different Stories

It seems that no one knows why the juveniles were sent home and no one is taking credit.

Riverfront Times reports that the 22nd Judicial Circuit Court (and the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department) have different stories about why a group teenagers were involved in a gunfight Saturday night and were released to their families.

In the case of “he stated, she said”, the initial incident report states the juvenile court was contacted. They advised the officers to release them to their parents. A spokesperson for the 22nd Judicial Court stated that they were not taken to juvenile court for detention by police. The incident was not reported to either a juvenile officer or a judge.

The statement continues to state that “Instead, a telephone conversation occurred between the intake officer and a police officer.” The content of the conversation was not agreed upon by the parties.

“As of today, none of these juveniles have been brought to St. Louis City Family Court to be referred, detained, or charged.” The statement stated that after the police have presented the youths to the court, a juvenile officer will review the evidence and determine whether they are eligible for detention.

These are the people who are supposed to keep us safe when they take our guns away.

To be clear, politicians are focusing on disarming lawful gun owner, but criminals walk. Multiple gun control laws were broken in this case, yet the suspects are still free. Criminals are the problem, not guns. Gun control, as shown here, will not solve the problem.

Want to know why gun control isn’t working? It’s because of ineptitude, lack of enforcement of current laws. It is not about guns or public safety, it’s about control.
