While there is a lot of talk about banning assault rifles, Americans aren’t buying it. Quinnipiac University recently found that support for a semiauto ban is at its lowest level ever. The recent rise in gun sales shows that people are more committed to their Second Amendment rights. RELATED STORY Senate Reaches Bipartisan Gun Control Agreement Over Weekend. Recent Poll shows the lowest support for a semi-auto ban ever. It seems that stricter gun control is having an unintended effect. It is actually increasing gun owners, rather than decreasing the number guns in America. This shift is evident in the recent poll that showed Americans are not against a ban on “assault weapon” bans. Quinnipiac University’s recent poll shows that 50% support a ban on assault weapons, and 45 percent oppose it. It may seem like a win for gun regulation (Illegal Infringement laws), but it is not when you compare previous percentage points. Only 29 percent opposed a ban four years ago, while a staggering 67 percent supported it. According to SAF (Second Amendment Foundation), “SAF founder, Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb, said that this is clear evidence that the public is awakening to the fact gun bans aren’t the answer to violent crime.” But, the poll conducted after the massacre at Uvalde showed increasing support for stricter gun laws. Fox News reports that 57% of Americans support stricter guns laws. This is in contrast to a Quinnipiac November poll that showed 45% support. They were instead included in the “support for stricter guns control” question. It is difficult to tell which gun control items the polled support or not. Red Flag on the Play While the poll did address Red Flag laws directly, it didn’t. It asked people if they feel the responsibility to report mental health problems of anyone who might be at risk. To me, the presentation and wording feel like a baited question. You are a monster if you don’t believe people with mental health problems should be reported. Red Flag laws are for people who believe that people with mental illness should be reported. 89% of those polled fell for the trap. It will be interesting to see how they use this to push dangerous legislation. We will monitor the situation as it unfolds. Voice of Reason SAF founder and Executive vice president Alan M. Gottlieb addressed recent poll: “Semiautomatic weapons have been around for more that a century,” Gottlieb said. “And the popular AR-type rifles are owned by private citizens for at most 60 years.” Their use in crime is statistically low, so to blame them for their availability and demonize the technology is a false flag bordering on fraud. He said that people are becoming more aware of the problem than guns. “For example, the Quinnipiac poll showed that a 40% majority of voters believe the real problem is mental health, more than twice as many as the 19% who think firearms are at the root of the current crime spike.” He also cites the FBI Uniform Crime Report, which consistently shows that rifles are only involved in a small percentage of all homicides. Rifles are involved in only 2 to 4 per cent of all murders. Gottlieb said it best: “So this push for demonization and ban an entire category of rifles isn’t just wrong, it borders upon being delusional and it is certainly dishonest.” Sign up for the Personal Defense World newsletter today!
