According to NSSF Survey, there were 5.4 million first-time gun buyers in 2021.

The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), recently conducted a survey among retailers about first-time gun buyers in 2021. Given the current rise of violent crime in America, I’m sure the results will not surprise. Many citizens are now turning to their personal protection, as crime spikes in Democrat-run cities.

Background Checks by NICS for 2021 Show Sustained Support for Pro-Guns

According to a NSSF Survey 2021, 5.4 Million Gun Buyers were First-Timers

A survey has shown that almost 30 percent of firearms purchased in 2021 went to new gun owners. The NSSF conducted the poll based on surveys of retailers and background checks using the National Instant Criminal Background Check System, (NICS). The figure of 30% represents 5.4 millions people across all demographics.

This number is higher than normal, but it is still 10 percent lower than the 40 percent in 2020. In 2020, more than 21 million background checks were performed. 8.4 million of those buyers were first-time buyers. But, the combined figures of 2020’s 8.4 million and 2021’s 5.4 million in 2021 means that 13.8 million Americans are concerned about their safety over these two years.

A NSSF report shows that nearly 47 percent of first-time gun purchasers inquired about training and 43 percent signed up. 23 percent of first-time gun purchasers in 2020 also purchased another firearm in 2021. The report also shows that 2021 saw a broad cross-section of first-time gun buyers.

Over 33 percent of first-time gun buyers in 2021 were women.44 percent of retailers saw an increase of African-Americans purchasing firearms in 2021.Nearly 40 percent of retailers saw an increase of Hispanic-Americans purchasing firearms in 2021.Over 27 percent of retailers saw an increase of Asian-Americans purchasing firearms in 2021.Over 18 percent of retailers saw an increase of Native-Americans purchasing firearms in 2021.Nearly 14 percent of retailers saw an increase of Native-Hawaiian/Pacific Islanders purchasing firearms in 2021.New Gun Owners are Welcome

Joe Bartozzi (NSSF President and CEO) said, “We welcome these gun owners to the greater American community of law-abiding Americans, who choose to possess a firearm for lawful reasons, including self-defense and recreational target shooting and hunting.” Surveys revealed that nearly half of new gun owners want professional training and are continuing to embrace their Second Amendment rights. These trends indicate that there is still a strong interest for gun ownership and that gun owners are keen to learn more about safe and responsible handling, storage, and use of firearms.
