ENTER FREE GUN FRIDAY TO WIN A RUGER(r] LCP(r] MAX AND CALDWELL POTABLE TARGETKIT. Close Peanut butter and jelly are not meant to be combined, but a pocket pistol or laser? It is ironic that handguns most commonly carried by citizens for personal protection are also the most difficult to shoot. Yes, we all talk about custom M1911s and Glock 22s when we’re in the gun shop. When it comes to concealing lawful gun carriers, it often boils to compact revolvers or subcompact auto guns. This is backed up by the sales figures. RELATED STORY Viridian Lasers Release Variant for New Ruger MAX-9 Increase Accuracy With a Pocket Pistol & Laser Combination The pocket pistol has enjoyed popularity among concealed carry enthusiasts over the years due to its small size. Many manufacturers now offer pocket-sized pistols. The problem with pocket carry pistols is their short sight radius. We all know that a pistol with a shorter sight radius will have a lower accuracy and higher target acquisition rates. Some pocket pistols feature a double-action operation with a long trigger pull. Pocket pistols are extremely popular because of their ease-of-use. Some firearm manufacturers have released pocket pistol models with lasers attached. Ruger, Smith & Wesson and SIG Sauer were among the first to get in on this trend. Over the years, after-market lasers have made it possible to add a light to many popular firearms. The Trigger Guard and Grip Laser Solution. Although there are many rail-mounted lasers available, they require a pistol with a Picatinny rail. Pocket pistols were left out in the cold. For smaller pistol models, a solution was needed. The trigger guard laser was born. Laser grips also filled the gap for small pocket revolvers. LaserMax, Crimson Trace and LaserMax are some of the companies that offer laser upgrades for pocket pistols. Even the smallest North American Arms.22 MAG can have a laser grip. It’s an exciting time to live. Reality-Based Training It is difficult to fully understand the benefits of a laser-aiming device if all your practice is at the square range in daylight. Check out the FBI statistics about Law Enforcement Officers Killed In The Line of Duty. You’ll see that most felonious attacks on cops occur in darkness hours. Does this mean that every attack on cops takes place in dimming light? It doesn’t. If you find yourself in sufficient light with distance between your attacker and you, this is a rare situation. It is not easy to trigger a deadly force encounter. The good guys follow a set of legal and moral rules. We must be certain of what we are targeting and where it is located. We need to have the mental clarity we can muster, and be certain that we are only doing what is necessary. Morality and legality do not make bad guys worse. That’s what makes them bad guys. The brain is the most important tool in fighting. After your brain has granted you permission to fire your weapon you will need another indicator, or “Go Code”, that indicates that the weapon is properly aligned and in line with the target. This code can be a clear front view, indexed on the threat. If you are unable to see a clear front sight, this will be where the laser shines (pardon the pun). Laser Redundancy Laser sights do not replace standard sights. They are an emergency redundant system. Your Go Code is if you can clearly see your front sight. If you see a red laser dot on the target, that’s your Go Code. It is important to understand that lasers cannot replace good training or a mystical bullet guidance system. The bottom line is to get the best equipment possible, train with it, and be aware of your limitations. Lasergrips on a small gun can give you confidence and comfort, which is a huge plus when your life is at stake. Get the Personal Defense World newsletter today and stay in the loop!
