It would be a terrible thought to believe that they are deliberately putting our children at risk in order to promote gun control. Biden’s comments and new legislation in California are both a good example. RELATED STORY California’s new legislation and Biden’s comments suggest a better explanation. A FBI report shows that Democrats are working to weaken school security. I believe it is now clear that reporting dangerous or threatening behavior will help reduce school violence. It stands to reason that someone threatening to attack school employees or schools should be reported. California doesn’t like the idea that a threat to school safety should be reported. A recent bill, SB 1273 was passed in just two days following the Uvalde tragedy. The law repeals an existing provision that required school employees to report threats. Breitbart News reports that the law repeals a clause in an existing law that required school employees to report threats to their schools. The lunacy of this new legislation is being seen by someone: Senator Melissa Melendez (D), stated that she was shocked that the State Senate would approve a measure making schools less safe just two days after the tragic events in Texas. Teachers being required to report violence in the classroom could be the only warning law enforcement needs to prevent another violent attack. This all seems to have to do with equity. According to the ACLU, students who make contact with law enforcement are less likely than others to graduate high school and are more likely to end up in jail. These harms are most severe for students from marginalized groups. Students with disabilities and students of color are often referred to law enforcement and cited. It begs the question: What about the minorities they are putting at risk by this legislation? Is their life worth the same “equity”, as those who act in a criminal way? Why is it that Democrat policies seem to always favor criminals? This is a valid question. Senator Melendez stated in her statement, “Threats to violence deserve the attention law enforcement.” Parents should feel comfortable sending their children to school. By passing SB 1273, we make schools more vulnerable to repeating the Texas experience. School Security and Mental Health Awareness Nope! Many have suggested that schools be strengthened and that mental health drivers be considered. These are legitimate and real options. Over the years, something has changed and it’s not guns. They have been part of American culture since the beginning. School shootings are not. Why is it that Democrats refuse to acknowledge this and address legitimate concerns? Breitbart News reports that Senator Minority Leader Mitch McConnell stated, “In discussing how us might come together to address the problem of mental illness, school safety, and we’ll get back to it next week and hope for results.” This seems like an extremely rational approach. The Biden administration disagrees. Karine Jean Pierre, White House Press Secretary, stated that these are two issues Biden disagrees on. He is not focusing on hardening schools or addressing the real problem. Guns are his focus. Biden doesn’t care about school security or protecting children. There was no SRO on campus. Jean Pierre said that the problem is guns and not having legislation to deal with an issue that has become a national pandemic. Ironic that this message was delivered on the last day for Mental Health Awareness Month, but here we are. Remember how they dealt with the last pandemic when they continue to refer to guns as a “pandemic”. This is starting to look familiar now that the CDC has been involved. One Trick Pony with No Substance. Gun control is not the solution. Any type of legislation would take many months to pass. Let’s assume they passed their measures; it could take years for full compliance. What are they doing to stop clear and effective measures that could almost immediately be enacted? We must not forget that those who say that security is too weak are the same people who have armed security. The White House is not at risk of an active shooter incident. The Democrats’ response does not seem to have anything to do protecting children. It is political theater and designed to help them achieve their true goal: gun controls. This country will not be healthy if the Democrats are too focused on gun control. We can only hope that it does not come at the cost of any more children.
