Some areas of the country, including California, prohibit hunters from using bullets containing lead. Nosler’s E Tip projectile is a lead-free option for deer rifles. This projectile is able to penetrate well and retain energy, while still complying with all laws that require “unleaded” ammunition. The green polymer tip has an “expansion chamber” that allows for reliable expansion and 95% weight retention. Below is a video of a.30 caliber 180gr lead-free E-Tip. At 100 yards, this machine can power through two 12-inch blocks of Ballistics Gel. This was fired from an.308 Winchester.
Nosler claims that the E-Tip (“Expansion Tip”) bullet is superior to other solid copper hunting bullets. “Unlike competitor’s one-piece designs Nosler E-Tip Bullets will not blow off the petals at extreme velocities or will ever be questioned about the low end expansion. The minimum impact velocity is 1800 fps for standard calibers. One hunter posted on Facebook that the E-Tip was excellent. “I have taken a pig with a 130gr E-Tip from.270 and they worked flawlessly. My son took two pigs using his.300 Win Mag, 165gr E–Tips and they worked flawlessly.
