December 11, 2021. Area 419’s ZERO reloading presse is a 9-station turret turret press that has some very unique features. This press was created to be the most precise turret ever made. As tested by Gavin Gear of UltimateReloader.com, the ZERO turret press delivered very impressive shoulder-bump consistency and ultra-low seated bullet run-out (about +/- 0.0005?). Area 419’s engineering was impressive as the numbers were as good a single-stage press can deliver. This is a high-end product, and the MSRP is $1200.00. We would expect this. SEE FULL REVIEW on UltimateReloader.com. The ZERO turret presses allow you to install up to nine (9) different reloading tools in the large top turret. It revolves around a central axis. The ZERO turret press is not flexible or wobbly, unlike other turret presses. Area 419 has a clever system that locks the turret in place after you have selected the die from your array. A unique system is used to secure shell-holders in Area 419 (see video at 12:00). This also increases the precision of the press. The video shows how the “wedge clamp” secures the turret. You can index the press to any station by loosening the wedge clamp. After you have selected your die you can tighten the wedge clamp once more. This important step can be seen in the video at the 13:20 -13:35 timemark. ZERO Turret Press Operates Very Smoothly
Gavin noted that the ZERO turret is very smooth and precise due to smart engineering and multiple bearings. Area 419 describes the design features. — Turret (zero slop) eliminates variability when removing or resetting dies
The turret head houses nine 7/8×14-threaded (in the future, 1-1/4 thread) dies
— This ram-stroke is 4.4?, which allows for the use of very tall cartridge types.
— Adjustable/interchangeable handle setup for maximizing leverage/feel based on operation
— Slide-out drawer, internal primer-catch system. Important Features of ZERO Turret Press 1. Frame: 6061 Aluminum, clear anodized
2. Wedge clamp (locks the turret into an indexed position)
3. Turret (7075 aluminum-steel construction)
4. Adjustable handle with roller knob, left- or right-handed operation
5. Bearings: Side plates: Roller thrust bearings and ball bearings
6. Ram riding in self-lubricated linear bearings
7. Spent primer catch drawer Made from American billet aluminum, stainless steel, and a self-lubricating cylindrical sleeve bearing, this press uses precision-ground 1.25? bearings. ram. The linkage system glides on bearings, providing smooth operation with almost zero slop. The oversized ram has a 0.75-inch steel arm and ZERO friction knob. The turret system has an oversized ball-detent system. It is secured with a custom-made ZERO point pull-stud. The supplied T-handle is sufficient to lock the turret once indexing has been completed. Repeatability variance should not exceed.0005? when indexing the turret. The press’s opening will allow for the sizing and seating standard 7/8? cases. Standard shellholders and dies. NOTE: Area 419 will make and sell shellholders that are specifically designed for the system in 2020. SUMMARY — Impressive Press Delivers Accurate Results
Gavin Gear was impressed by Area 419’s new Zero Press. He said that it offers the precision and versatility of a single-stage, but also the precision and control of a turret. “There will always people who prefer a single-stage. The ZERO is a compelling choice for those who want the precision and ease of a single-stage, without having to use screw dies. It is possible to leave your dies in place, which can improve precision. Everything returns to the same place when dies have been indexed into their proper positions. Variation can be created by screwing dies in and outside. Variation is the enemy for the ‘white labcoat shooter’. I will be testing the ZERO press using custom dies and ultra-high-end ones. This will be a great way to see the true potential of this press!
