Berger 6.5 Creedmoor Ammunition Performs well in PRS Rifle

23rd April 2023Is factory ammunition 6.5 Creedmoor good enough to win PRS or NRL competitions? Berger ammunition is the answer to this question. Berger 6.5 Creedmoor ammo produced with Berger match Bullets and premium Lapua Brass demonstrated excellent accuracy, impressive Velocity, and very good numbers for ES/SD. This ammo was tested at 1000 yards using a PRS rig stocked with Rem 700 actions and showed only a half-MOA vertical deviation. The group produced would have been 50-1X for F-Class competition. This is a pretty impressive result for a PRS rifle. This ammo was tested by our friend Erik Cortina, a Texas-based shooter. Erik Cortina is the reigning SW Nationals F-Open Champion. He is also a top F-Class shooter who competes in tactical matches for fun and glory. Erik built a 6.5 Creedmoor rifle with a Remington 700 Action a couple of seasons ago. Erik calls it his “budget” build, even though this rifle has a top-shelf MPA frame and premium Kahles optic. It also uses a Remington 700 factory action instead of the Borden actions that he usually runs. Erik’s favorite actions are the Borden BRM XD and Borden Mountaineer. I aimed for speed by shooting five rounds above the chrono. I used the BC information from the box, and it all lined-up properly. It took only 15 shots for me to get the gun shooting well after I adjusted my ECTuner. It’s easy to use and has good components. This Berger factory ammunition features Berger 130gr Hybrid OTM Tactical Bullets. The Lapua 6.5 Creedmoor cartridges have a large primer. This ammo has a good velocity, with a Standard Deviation and Extreme Spread that are comparable to good hand-loads. Cortina says that the razor-sharp Kahles 6-24x56mm scope and the very accurate Brux 6.5 Creedmoor barrel help achieve this type of outstanding performance at 1,000 yards. Erik Cortina designed and built the barrel tuner on this rifle. The EC Barrel Tuner can be used alone or, as can be seen, it can also BE fitted behind a muzzlebrake. Erik says: “The EC Tuner enabled me to tune my barrel to my ammo instead of tuning the barrel for ammo as is done during reloading.” The tuner allows me to tune all brands of ammo to perform as well as possible with my rifle.
