For some applications, we prefer a non-bushing FL die over a bushing die. Three Forster full-length sizing tools are shown here, with necks honed at three different dimensions: 0.2266?, 0.2566? and 0.2767?. The Honed Full Length Sizing Option There are many options for full-length (FL), sizing dies. Most precision hand-loaders prefer FL sizing dies with neck bushings. These allow you to adjust the “grip” of your bullet by using smaller or larger bushings. Whidden Gunworks, Forster, Redding, and other manufacturers offer FL bushing dies. Non-bushing full-length sizing tools can produce extremely accurate ammo with very little run-out. Many non-bushing FL dies are too small for the neck. This causes excessive neck tension and makes it difficult to work the brass. Another option is available that promises very low run-out. The honed FL Die is a full-length sizing tool that has the neck honed to ensure a perfect fit to the case-neck. Honed FL dies can produce straight ammo when done correctly. There are no issues with bushing alignment or bushings that are not perfectly aligned. The Editor has honed dies made by Whidden Gunworks, Redding, and Forster. They all perform exceptionally well, delivering match ammunition that has extremely low run-out when measured using a 21st Century Concentricity Gage. California shooter “Froggy”, explains why he prefers honed dens for tactical ammo in Bugholes from Bipod. This is one of our most popular articles. Q: Do your FL sizes change every time? Do you use custom dies or standard ones? Yes, I custom-size all my brass every time that I reload. Guess what? I have never had a feeding issue. I do use a modified size die without bushings. My FL resizing tool has been custom-honed in neck area to give.0015 Press the bullet down. I also placed a slightly larger radius at my neck shoulder junction. This helps seal the chamber. This die gives me consistent neck tension without the need for bushings. Bushings can be useful when you’re looking for a good load. A customized FL die is a better choice once you have the right sizing to achieve neck tension. 6.5 Guys Review Forster Honed Full-length Dies

The 6.5 Guys have reviewed Forster’s honed FL-sizing dies and discussed the pros and cons. A Bushing FL die is best if you load many bullets from different manufacturers. A honed die might be a good choice if you’ve settled on a bullet and have found the “ideal neck tension”. The 6.5 Guys talk about a service offered to customers by Forster Products that custom hones the neck diameter of its full length sizing dies to their specifications (to the thousandth).
