Chipman was an anti-gun lobbyist who advocated widespread banning popular firearm types and supported the confiscation of modern sporting rifles. When it was clear Chipman would not win Senate confirmation, Biden withdrew the nomination. Now Biden has nominated a second ATF Director candidate who is equally objectionable.NRA-ILA Says Dettlebach Supports Radical Restrictions on Gun Rights
According to the NRA-ILA, “Like Chipman,” Dettelbach is a dedicated firearm controller with a background that shows he would not be fair or objective as head ATF. Dettelbach supported gun bans, restrictions and legal firearm transfers, as well as expanding prohibitions on who can legally possess firearms. It’s not clear what gun control measures Dettelbach does not support. This led NRA-PVF awarding Dettelbach an “F” for his views on the right to keep, and bear arms. Notably, Michael Bloomberg’s gun control group Everytown for Gun Safety (David Chipman) endorsed Dettelbach’s bid to become Ohio’s attorney general. However, Ohio voters wisely rejected Dettelbach’s gun control promises in 2018. Dettelbach’s views on the Second Amendment were not popular with Americans. In 2018, Ohio voters wisely rejected Dettelbach and his gun control promises. Please contact your U.S. Senators. Please contact your U.S. Senators and ask them to respectfully oppose Dettelbach’s nomination. “Dettlebach Supports Ban On Modern Sporting Rifles
The National Shooting Sports Foundation stated that Dettelbach’s qualifications and record will be thoroughly examined. Dettelbach previously supported bans on Modern Sporting Rifles, AR-15 semiautomatic rifles and universal background checks. These are impossible to implement without a national firearm registry. Federal law already prohibits them. Extreme-risk protection orders or so-called “red flag” laws, which do not provide due process protections. Dettelbach… was a recent partisan candidate for office and supported gun control during his campaign. He was also endorsed by Everytown for Gun Safety for his support for policies restricting Second Amendment Rights. “COMMENTARY – Dettlebach is a staunch enemy of the Second Amendment
We agree that Dettlebach is not a candidate that respects the Second Amendment. Dettlebach, if he is appointed as the head of the ATF will likely push for policies that negatively affect all gun owners in America. Dettlebach will likely try to establish a national gun registry (a digital record of gun owners), make background checks more difficult and restrict semi-auto guns and rifles.
