The shooting at Sacramento this weekend was a good one, depending on where you are. It is one that President Biden will not waste as he uses it to push for gun control. As we have reported lately, violent crime has risen in the wake defunding the police movement. Notably, violent crime is increasing in Democrat-run municipalities. Another tragic example of this new normal is the shooting in Sacramento, California on Saturday. USA Today reports that “the downtown area was packed at the time and a large brawl broke out just before the shooting,” Police Chief Kathy Lester stated Sunday. Andy Ngo, an independent journalist, posted a video to Twitter showing the scene leading up the shooting. Six people were killed and 10 others were injured. Although not much information is available about the suspects, the Sacramento Police confirmed that a stolen firearm was used. KCRA 3 Sacramento reports that authorities are asking the public for help in identifying the culprit. Quick! To the Virtue Signal Biden took the podium while Sacramento mourns the loss 6 of its citizens to rising violent crime. As expected, he didn’t address rising crime and failed policies. It was the guns. It’s always about the guns. Fox News reports that Biden stated, “But we must not mourn; we must act.” “That is why my Administration took historic executive action to implement my comprehensive firearm crime reduction strategy — from standing-up gun trafficking strike force to helping cities across America expand community violence interventions to hiring more police officers for the community policing.” Nobody is saying that we shouldn’t mourn. The events in Sacramento were tragic and should not have happened. We need to find real solutions and not just lip service in the run-up to the midterm elections. Biden however promises to continue to tackle the problem from the same tired and worn-out perspective. Fox News continues, “We also continue calling on Congress to act,” he stated. “Ban ghost guns. Background checks must be done for all gun sales. Ban assault weapons and high capacity magazines. Eliminate gun manufacturer immunity from liability. Pass my budget proposal. This would give cities more funding to pay for police officers and crime prevention and intervention strategies that will make our cities safer. These are just a few steps Congress urgently must take to save lives.” Second Verse Just Like the First Although it seems like Biden has a plan to appease gun grabers, there is something very familiar in his list. These are all ideas that are already in California, as I’m sure you know. According to Breitbart, California already bans ghost guns. “California requires background checks for all gun sales starting in the 1990s.” This list also includes: “California bans ‘assault weapons since the 1990s. “California bans high-capacity magazines. “Gov. Gavin Newsom (D), is pushing for private citizens to sue gun manufacturers.” He also calls for a ban “assault weapons” even though the police state that they don’t know what type of guns were used. Although his plan may not be revolutionary, it is a new idea for the Democrat party. He calls for more funding for police and crime prevention and treatment strategies in cities. He is basically calling for funding to address the problems created by Democrat “defunding the police” policies. Although his speech was largely election year hyperbole he still calls for re-funding the police. This is a good step in the right direction. This isn’t going to stop unless Democrats are willing to examine the facts of these cases (like the involvement in a stolen firearm). It is time for Democrats to admit their policies regarding leniency, bail reduction/removal and other issues. We must admit that we have failed and move on. It is only going to increase the problem if firearms are taken from law-abiding citizens. There is a reason why there aren’t mass shootings at gun shops or police departments.
