Big Presses For Jumbo-Sized Cartridges Used In The ELR Game

April 26th 2023In ELR games, especially the King of 2 Miles game (KO2M), “go big or leave” is the motto. Top shooters use large-capacity ammunition that propels large-caliber bullets with ultra-high BC at high speeds. Bullets fired by cartridges like the.416 Barrett are capable of supersonic speeds at Extreme Long Ranges. The.416 Barrett is capable of launching a 550-grain bullet at speeds exceeding 3000 FPS. How do you load jumbo.416 Barrett cartridges? Reloading presses that are heavy, powerful and big are needed. We learned that Paul Phillips (2019), and Robert Brantley (2018, both loaded their KO2M ammunition on RCBS AmmoMaster.50 BMG press. Phillips loaded.416 Barrett ammunition, while Brantley used a similar.416 cartridge. In 2018, Robert Brantley won the competition with his custom.416 cartridge. In 2019, Paul Phillips took the K02M competition with a.416 Barrett. Brantley was a close second. Both Phillips, and Brantley, use the RCBS AmmoMaster.50BMG single stage press kit as well as RCBS.416 Barrett Dies to hand-load their ammunition for extreme long range. Phillips, the owner of Global Precision Group, said that his ammo is now more consistent since switching to RCBS dies and press. Brantley uses RCBS for all his reloading requirements, from the AmmoMaster and dies to the ChargeMaster and Brass Boss. His custom.416-MCS loads launch a 550 grain bullet at more than 3,100 fps.

This video shows reloading using the RCBS AmmoMaster.50 BMG Press. Although this video shows.50 BMG cartridges being loaded, the same principles apply to loading.416 Barrett cartridges or other large rounds. Big cases need big presses!
