You can find a detailed review of the STM system to clean cartridge brass with stainless media on our main Accurateshooter.com site. To clean brass with stainless media, start with five pounds of small stainless pins sold by StainlessTumblingMedia.com. These can be placed with a gallon water, a little cleaner, and two lbs of cartridge brass in a rotary tumbler. Turn the machine on for about one to four hours. Forum member Jason Koplin purchased the STM media as well as a new Thumler’s tumbler. Jason Koplin then tried the STM cleaning process on his brass, including extremely dirty and tarnished “range pickup” brass. Jason was impressed by how well the STM process worked, as you can see in the “before” and “after” photos below. Brass that looked as if it was going to be thrown away was given a “like-new” makeover. It works great on both Rifle Brass as well as Pistol Brass
This process is equally effective on pistol and rifle brass (see below). Jason noticed a surprising benefit to the STM cleaning process: a significant reduction in noise in his reloading area. Jason stated that the water-filled rotary tumbler was quieter than his vibratory tumblers. Jason’s full review will show more before and after photos. Cory Dickerson, a Forum member who invented stainless tumbling and founded STM, created a “how to” video. The video shows how to load brass and media into the tumbler and how to separate brass from media once it is finished.
