December 10, 2021 – Here’s a great Do It-Yourself project for tactical shooting. The 65Guys.com’s Ed and Steve have designed a versatile wooden barricade that can be easily transported. This design was created to offer a variety shooting positions and can be easily transported in a pickup truck or SUV. The 69? The 69? tall barricade is hinged at the center, so it’s only 27? wide. Simply fold the Barricade open and nest the lower wings on ground-level stands. This is the BYOB Project – Build Your Own Barricade. The Barricade is easy to construct for anyone with basic woodworking skills. The only difficult part is cutting the Dado joints on the sides for the lower wings. Once you have it done, you will have a low-cost unit which is sturdy and versatile. It can also be easily packed in a truck to go on the range. The 6.5 Guys demonstrate their Gen 2 barricade in the video and show how to build one. The 6.5 Guys Modular Barricade
Steve created the Modular Barricade in PowerPoint. The dimensions were then added. Steve created the plan and cut the components to size. Then, he used ordinary wood screws to assemble the barricade frame. This was done to ensure maximum rigidity because of the light weight construction with 2? 2? x 2? Frame members. To allow the Barricade’s folding in half, a long piano hinge was used. It still has high torsional rigidity. Each Barricade opening is 12? Each Barricade opening measures 12???? x 12???? square. square. This consistent ‘window spacing’ allows interchangeable panels of different cut-out shapes to place at different heights/locations within the Barricade. Modular Barricade Key Features
— Lightweight construction using low cost 2×2 wood beams
• Collapsible frame with center hinges to make it easy to transport and deploy.
Multiple Support levels at 6? Vertical intervals (6? Variance R to L
Modular port design allows ports for modification and movement as needed.
6.5 Guys’ Modular Barricade — Construction Tips
With the right materials and basic tools, such as an electric screwdriver and power saw, the Modular Barricade can easily be built in a weekend. Steve used a router to make the side panel dado joints, but a table saw could also work. Steve’s biggest problem with the build was the port panels. He had trouble getting them to fit properly. The 2? 2? x 2 The frame wood was not always straight. Even a slight variation in the wood could cause a port panels to be too tight or loose. Steve had to do extra sanding, planing, and gluing to get the port panels to fit perfectly. Where and how to use the Barricade for Training
The 6.5 Guys’ Modular Barricade can be easily packed up and transported to your local range. (Check club/range rules to allow shooting from barricades. The Barricade is meant to be placed on the ground, but the base can also be placed on concrete if the range doesn’t allow for deployment prior to the firing line. Although you can use the Barricade to train on your own, Ed or Steve recommend that novice shooters attend a formal clinic.
