Canadian gun owners have seen their rights reduced a little each decade. They are also awaiting the fates of their semi-automatic modern sport rifles. Legislation is currently in progress to allow the government to “buyback” these firearms. They could therefore start before the end of the year. Now, the Canadian government makes a bold move to sabotage any remaining liberty north of the border. They do this by banning all handgun sales in Canada. At a news conference held in Ottawa on Monday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stated that it would be impossible to buy, sell or transfer handguns anywhere within Canada. “In other words, it’s capping the market in handguns,” Trudeau said at a news conference in Ottawa on Monday. Trudeau used the same shameless tactic as anti-gun politicians in America who use the recent mass murders at a New York supermarket, and texas grade school as an excuse for stricter gun laws in the United States. Trudeau stated that as a government and as a society, it is our responsibility to prevent further tragedies. “We only need to look south of the border for to see that if it doesn’t take action quickly and firmly, it gets worse and more difficult to counter.” Ineffective measures Canada’s Liberal government has been discussing a ban on handguns for many years. Despite the fact that such an order would likely have minimal impact on violent crime in Canada, this is still a very effective measure. Trudeau and other law enforcement officials have known this for years. In September 2018, a ban on handguns was under discussion. Mike McCormack, president, Toronto Police Association, addressed this issue at the time. He stated that those who sell, steal or use illegally guns face mountains of jail time. They are not affected by another law condemning their actions. He stated that “there’s no way in any world or my world that this would have an effect on somebody who’s going out and buy an illicit gun and use it for killing another person or shooting another person.” This was back in September 2018, when a ban on handguns was being considered. Trudeau, like most American gun-ban supporters, doesn’t grasp the basic point about all gun control laws and why they fail everywhere. This is a problem for Canada’s lawful gun owners. Law-abiding citizens will comply with such laws to their own disadvantage, but criminals will not. They are known as “criminals”. Will the United States follow suit? But don’t believe that the Canadian government is the only one with handguns in North America. After a recent visit in Texas, where 19 students and 2 teachers were killed, President Joe Biden declared his support for a ban of common handguns used for self-defense in America. Biden claimed that he once visited a New York Hospital and was shown X-rays showing gunshot wounds. Biden claimed that he had learned that 9mm handguns were so powerful that no one should be allowed to own one for self defense. Biden stated that a.22-caliber bullet would lodge in the lung and that we could probably get it out. A 9mm bullet can blow the lung out of the person. The idea of high-caliber weapons is ill-conceived. There are other semi-automatic handgun chambers that are more powerful than the 9mm. There are many more powerful revolver cartridges, and dozens more powerful rifle rounds. Gun bans, whether in Canada or the United States, are ill-conceived as they only affect law-abiding citizens.
