July 4, 2022. Today, July 4, is a special day. It marks the launch of a new nation, which would be the greatest example of freedom and democracy in the world. It is easy to forget the difficulties faced by our forefathers and the ongoing burdens we share as Americans to fight for freedom at home and abroad in today’s world. It is crucial that we recall the ideals upon which the nation was founded and that we remember that the nation became great because of the efforts and talents and citizens, not through a central government.
Navy Lt. Ellen Connors stated in a July 4th speech that “Our nation declared independence to allow our families to live freely — not just for one generation, but for future generations.” And what were the odds for the founding fathers. It was impossible. Our forefathers faced the largest empire in the world since ancient Rome. A colony has never been able to successfully leave a mother nation to establish a self-governing state. “The National Guard Heritage Paintings Collection. Battle of Long Island by Domenick d’Andrea.
The Price of Freedom… The Pride of a Nation
Here’s a selection taken from Daniel Webster’s July 4th 1851 Oration. His words ring true today: On the 4th of July 1776, the assembled Representatives of America declared that the United Colonies were, and should be, FREE and INDEPENDENT States. This Declaration was made by patriotic and determined men who believed in the justice of their cause, as well as the protection of Heaven. It has stood for seventy five years and is still valid today. It was sealed with blood. It was sealed in blood.
