Free Gun Friday Giveaway: Win a RUGER(r] LCP(r] MAX and CALDWELL POTABLE TARGETKIT Close (Photo by CBS News’ Charlie De Mar on Twitter) What kinda dystopian hellscape has Chicago become when even security guards are reckless thugs. Stories like this are coming out of Chicago, which is gun-controlled daily as Democrats push for more gun controls. A stray bullet fired by a Chicago security officer strikes and kills a grandmother just blocks away. This is a disturbing story. RELATED STORY Chicago Mayor Touts WhistleStop Program in Violent Crime Surge Stray Bullet from Chicago Security Guard Hits and Kills Grandmother. The incident occurred following an argument that had taken place the previous evening. A man called “Renegade,” returned to continue the fracas. According to security footage and a witness, Victor Brown, a security guard, became belligerent during the second altercation. Renegade, with his hands in pockets, shot Brown in the foot through his coat pocket and fled. According to CBS Chicago, Renegade, holding his hands in pockets, shot Brown in the foot, through his coat pocket, and fled. According to prosecutors, Brown fell to the ground and then pulled out a starter pistol with only blanks. He fired in the direction of the gunman, according to prosecutors.” Witness to the shooting said that Brown yelled at him to stop shooting. Due to bystanders, the security guard with a FOID card and CCL didn’t fire because he was trained. The security guard without the FOID card, CCL or training was able to steal the gun of the first guard and fire recklessly at civilians. I won’t even try to speculate as to why Brown was carrying a starter gun. Thugs will thug, I suppose. The Surprise That Never Stops Surprising: Why didn’t the security officer have a FOID or CCL card? According to the CBS Chicago report, Brown has a long criminal history that dates back to 2005. It includes domestic battery and armed robbery. Prosecutors also stated that Brown is wanted in Madison County on charges of speeding and driving with a suspended license. Brown has already served five years in prison for pleading guilty in 2010 to armed robbery and domestic battery charges. According to the report Brown was certified with standard 20-hour and 40-hour security training certificates. CBS Chicago stated that they learned that Brown had little training as a security guard. The question is, why would Brown’s background not be found if the security company did a background check? It’s quite a record, even with the prison sentence for armed robbery. Why would Chicago keep this information from a security company that was trying to vet a new employee? Unintended Tragedy We all know that the first security guard who refused to shoot at innocent bystanders was right. Brown’s reckless actions had devastating consequences for a grandmother and her mother. Bobbye Johnson was walking four blocks from Chase Bank when a bullet struck her in the chest. She was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center where she was declared dead. This is yet another example of gun control failings, even though there is much to unpackage. True gun control can only be taught in a certified classroom where trigger discipline and self-control are taught. This is what the first security guard was doing. He knew his target well and was able to stop him from shooting. The thug, who should never have been in that situation, decided that vengeance was better than innocent lives. It is not accidental that violent crime has become so common in Democrat-run areas. If law-abiding citizens are prevented from owning firearms, they become the toys of thugs. You also encourage criminals by coddling them. People are more polite when you arm law-abiding citizens with consequences for criminal activity.
