Discreet Carry Concepts makes concealed carry clips. These clips are made from very thin spring steel and are different from other options. These clips are not cheap, so keep that in mind. Today we will answer the question of whether or not Discreet Carry Concepts’ clip are worth the premium price. History of Holster Clips Kydex Holsters have been around since the 1960s and 1970s. They really took off in the late 1990s and 2000s. People were purchasing Kydex from local suppliers and then hand-forming it in their garage using a variety of techniques and methods. The Kydex was only used to protect the holster shell and did not affect the actual hardware. Home-builders used “soft loops” for attachments. These loops were originally made from leather and would break after a few uses. Then, BioThane was introduced as a coated webbing material. These were far more durable than the leather and rubber straps that people used before. Other looping techniques and mediums were also not used as often during this period. It was common for major holster manufacturers to make their own attachments from Kydex at that time. Although Kydex is a great holster it is not made to handle the stress of being attached. These attachments were also very easy to break and weren’t durable. Evolution eventually led to the creation of injection-molded clips. Although these plastic or polymer clips were more effective than the Kydex clips they replaced, there were still some issues. They were often not able to hold their shape well so it is important to replace them every six months to one year. These clips could spread very quickly. The Kydex would move from being held tight to your belt to leaving a quarter-inch gap between the clip’s bottom and its back. A spring metal clamp was another common attachment. These clips were often derived in other industries and used to make holsters. They were not as durable as their predecessors and would lose their snap from springs very quickly. Original spring metal clips often did not have a cloth-grabber. The cloth-grabber would hold the clips in place so that you couldn’t pull them off of the clip they were attached to. These clips were terrible in design. There were a few options for clips with cloth-grabbers, but these clips quickly lost tension. Discreet Carry Concepts aimed to change this and entered into the market. They wanted to offer a clip with a low profile, unlike their plastic and polyester counterparts. However, the clip could still be very tight to your belt or clothing and can be kept low-profile. What makes Discreet Carry Concepts’ clips unique? The majority of polymer clips available on the market are bulky and don’t last very long. While some clips will last longer than others they can still add thickness to your holster. These clips are not designed to be worn without a belt. The standard spring steel clips would easily come off the belt and lose tension quickly. Although a few designs included cloth-grabbers, their effectiveness was limited once they lost tension. They only worked if you had a thick belt. Discreet Carry Concepts changed all that. They created a low-profile clip made of spring steel that was tempered to maintain constant clamping pressure. This pressure is what sets the Discreet Carry Concepts clip apart from other spring steel and holster clips. The cloth graber was also developed by Discreet Carry Concepts. It is extremely effective and can hold any type of woven material. Quality is not cheap These clips are not cheap. However, they are more complicated to make than standard spring steel clips. Spring steel clips are usually made from steel using a stamping machine. This machine can produce thousands of these clips in a short time. Discreet Carry Concepts’ clip are also made by stamping but have unique heat-treatment processes which allow them to maintain constant planting pressure. To maintain consistent clamping pressure, they adjust the force of each clip. This may sound silly, and you might think it’s just a sales pitch if you don’t have as much experience with spring steel clips. These clips are the best. Many people believe that these clips should be priced the same as their competitors. However, Discreet Carry Concepts doesn’t have any reasonable competitors in their market. There is no clip on the market that is even remotely as good as what they make. Styles of Clips Discreet Cary Concepts offers a variety clips in different styles. Discreet Carry Concepts offers a variety of clip styles. We’ll first cover the clips and their classification as an over-the-belt-clip. These clips are intended to be worn over your concealed-carry belt. However, they will still function if you don’t have a belt. They are extremely secure and can be attached to almost any type or clothing. These options will be covered below. Monoblock The Discreet Carry Concepts Monoblock product is their newest. Monoblock was created to replace a foamy-style clip. The foamy clip is the most widely used in the holster industry. This is a basic plastic clip that was widely adopted by holster manufacturers. This clip does have a few issues. The main problem with the foamy-style clip, however, is its plastic material that can crack from repeated use. While any product can break if it is used enough, the foamy clips have a shorter life expectancy than other club clips like the Discreet Carry Concepts. These clips are not compatible with most holsters and have a shorter life span. Kydex holsters can be tailored to the gun’s shape. The clip, which is foamy-style, only has one point of contact with the holster. Depending on the gun’s shape, this point of contact may be very small. It is most likely true. The clip meets the holster at the point where the firearm’s frame and slide connect. Because the slide and the frame of a firearm are often different in width, it creates an inconsistent contact point. You must also ensure that the clip is mounted at the correct angle to ensure it exerts enough pressure and stays under the belt. This is something that a lot of holster manufacturers don’t do, which makes the clips less secure. Discreet Carry Concepts designed Monoblock to work with the industry’s most common foamy mounting pattern. The Monoblock can replace most foamy-style clips by this design. Warning! However, the Discreet Carry Concepts Monoblock won’t be as secure as a clip like their Mod 4. This clip has a metal backing against which the cloth-grabber indexes. The Monoblock comes with two separate arms. Each arm has its own cloth-grabber. So if you have a gun like a Glock with a narrow slide than the frame, one arm will press against the slide and the other against the gun’s frame. This allows for more contact and makes the holster more secure. For more consistent engagement, some holsters, such as our Singleton, have a flat clip backing. This makes the Monoblock safer than if it is mounted on a regular holster. Even without a belt, you can carry a Discreet Carry Concepts Monoblock. It will be very secure if the clip mount has been properly designed. This clip uses standard spring steel, unlike other clips from Discreet Carry Concepts. Although it isn’t as secure as their other clips it is still more secure than many due to the design Discreet Carry Concepts chose. This clip was meticulously designed and tested many times. This is the best holster clip at its price point. Belt Clips Mod 1 (Belt). The Mod 1 clip measures 2.3 inches in length and will fit over a 1.75 inch belt. The clip has one mounting hole at its bottom. This is ideal for a knife sheath, or any other device that requires only one mounting point. This is a good option if you want the clip’s ability to rotate. Discreet Carry Concept Mod 4 – Belt The most popular and well-known clip from Discreet Carry Concepts is the Mod 4. The Mod 4 can be worn over any belt and will fit in almost any holster. It is available in a standard and a shorty size. The regular clip measures 3.15 inches in length, while the shorty is 3.41 inches. Both sizes can be used with a 1.5-inch belt or a 1.75 inch belt. These clips can be mounted in multiple ways. The clip can be used in their standard mounting pattern which has a slot at its top and a hole at its bottom with 0.6 spacing. This clip can be adjusted in any direction with a clamp length of 8 degrees. The universal mounting system has two vertical slots at the bottom of the clip. These slots can be used to adjust the ride height of the clip, or to make sure that the mounting holes are at a different distance. These are the best concealed-carry clips available. They are only 0.6 inches in width, making it easy to work around belt loops. They are also very low-profile so you don’t have worry about them printing on a shirt or other cover. They are my favorite currency item in the company’s lineup. Discreet Carry Concept Mod 6. The Discreet Carry Concepts MOD 6 clip measures 3.36 inches overall and can be used with a 2.25-inch duty strap. These clips are made to attach accessories to very large belts, so they won’t work for everyone. This is one of those products that you don’t need if you don’t think you might need it. But if you do know you need it, it’s a product you should definitely have. Discreet Carry Concept Mod 8. The Mod 8 clip from Discreet Carry Concepts is their deep-carry option. With their 0.5-inch mounting pattern, this clip will work with very few holsters. They will sit very deep, as expected. The overall length of the clip is 3.9 inches. This clip is almost half an inch longer than the Mod 4, so it will move the gun a little deeper. These clips are only available in a 1.75 inch belt. This clip is not something I’ve ever used. Maybe I would have the need if I were to make a knife sheath or another item. This is a niche item and you will know if you have it. These clips are called “shorty clips” because they don’t fit over a belt. The clip itself is very small. The clip itself is very short, even though it is the same length as the rest of Discreet Carry Concepts’ lineup. However, the locking part that secures your clothing is much shorter than the rest of the company’s offerings. These clips are great for concealing because of their low profile focus. These clips work well for business casual events. You must ensure that your clothes are properly set up for carrying this gun. If your pants don’t hold the gun, you will notice severe sagging at your waistline. Because the belt will not hold the gun’s weight, you need to make sure your pants are tight and have a stiff waistband. Discreet Carry Concept Mod 2 There are many options for Discreet Concepts Mod 2 clips. These two variants have different mounting patterns. One uses the standard Discreet Carry Concepts pattern. It has a hole at its bottom and a horizontal slot at its top. This allows for eight degrees of clamp adjustment in either way. These clips measure 2.9 inches in length and are very useful for certain applications. These clips are often shorter and work well with small guns like the Ruger LCP or knives sheaths. They also come with Mod 2.2 clips. Mod 2.2s measure 2.35 inches overall. They are also shorter so they can be used for things like knife clips. These clips can be used in many different ways depending on how creative you are. However, they may require custom gear. Before you can use these shorter clips for everyday usage, it is important to be comfortable with your gear. Discreet Carry Concept Mod 3 The Mod 3 clip is the shortest of the Discreet Carry Concepts range and measures only 1.73 inches overall. The Mod 3 standard has one hole at the bottom that can be used for mounting things. This clip is great if you only need one mounting point. Mod 3.1 clips are available if you need two points. This clip has a mounting hole in both the bottom and back. This will give you two points when mounting to a sheath, or another holster. Discreet Carry Concept Mod 5 My personal favorite of the shorty clips is the Discreet Carry Concepts Mod 5. These clips are approximately the same length as the Discreet Carry Concepts Mod 4s. This makes them somewhat interchangeable. These clips are for behind-the belt use. These are the clips I use when I carry a holster in business casual settings. This is the holster you should use if you need to wear a tucked-in shirt with clips that don’t show. The Mod 5 series is available in multiple mounting options. Mod 5 standard has a 0.5-inch spacing and two holes. Mod 5.1, which I used for years, has a 0.5-inch spacing with two holes. Mod 5.1 U has been introduced. Mod 5.1 U has vertical slots that allow for you to adjust your clip’s ride height. If I was rearranging my gear, I would likely use the Mod 5.1U. This is what I will be using on all my future holsters. This is my new holster design, which I carry with a tucked in shirt. Discreet Carry Concept Mod 9 Discreet Carry Concepts has the Mod 9 clip, which is very similar in design to the Mod 8 series. It is a deep concealment clip and measures 3.9 inches longer than the Mod 5 series. This clip can be used to move your sheath or holster very low and deeply. It can also be mounted with 0.5-inch holes. Although I don’t see any use for the Mod 9 clip, I know others will. Special Applications (SA), The special application (SA), series clips are also very low-profile. These clips are basically the same as the Discreet Carry Concepts standard clips but with a lower profile lip to make it easier to remove. The clips are difficult to remove and put on, which I don’t consider a benefit. The idea was great and I bought them for a knife sheath. They are very easy to attach/remove, and don’t add much concealment. They can be used to cover the lip of a car seat or other similar items. Despite the fact that they are very difficult to remove, I don’t think it’s worth the extra cost. The special application clips are useless for most users. These clips are not for you if you don’t believe this idea is feasible. In conclusion, the Discreet Carry Concepts clip is one of the best on the market. Monoblock is a great choice if you are looking for a clip that works well and is affordable. It’s my opinion, the best clip for most users. The Discreet Carry Concepts Mod 4 is a clip that is just amazing and extremely secure. It’s my favorite clip overall and is definitely the catch-all, end-of-the world clip. The Mod 4 holster clip should be your only choice. If you want to conceal carry with a tucked in shirt, the Mod 5 series clips are a great option. The Mod 5 clip is a great option if you are willing to put in the effort to properly set up your clothes. What have you found about Discreet Carry Concept clip? Please comment below.
