Here’s a quick guide (ranked in Advanced to Beginner) to the scheduled learning events at 2022 Camp Perry National Matches. These events will take place from July 12 through August 13, 2022.
The Advanced Highpower Clinic is led by members of CMP Gold, CMP’s competitive Highpower squad. It provides more detailed instruction in service rifle competition techniques through classroom and range discussion. Although the class has been primarily dry-fired on the range, it now includes a 600-yard live fire portion. This course is only for those who have attended the Advanced Small Arms Firing School at minimum once and have an “Expert” classification with the CMP/National Rifle Association.

The Advanced High Power Clinic, led by Team CMP members including Bob Gil (above), provides advanced training on wind reading, mental management and more.INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED – Junior Smallbore and Air Rifle Camp:

Intermediate and advanced junior shooters who shoot smallbore, standing, or international air rifles are welcome to attend the camp. Instruction takes place on Camp Perry’s outdoor Petrarca Range, and within the Gary Anderson CMP Competition Center indoor range. Participants must be aged between 12 and 20 years old and have been involved in smallbore competition matches or international air rifle. Camp will provide safety training and an enhanced understanding of the fundamentals. There will also be other topics of interest. This valuable course is recommended for juniors who want to continue their marksmanship career on to college.

INTERMEDIATE – U.S. Marine Corps Junior Highpower clinic:

The clinic covers more advanced training than the basics, such as weather conditions, wind reading, equipment use, shooting positions, and rulebook standards. It lasts three days. The clinic’s junior participants spend one day in the classroom and then two days of live fire on the range at 200-300, 300, and 600 yards. The Rifle Small Arms Firing School is required for young athletes who wish to attend this clinic. BEGINNER – Small Arms Firing Schools, (SAFS).

The SAFS course is one of the most popular National Matches events. It combines classroom education with hands-on instruction in fundamentals, competition basics, and safety. Members of the military marksmanship team lead training. CMP instructors are also certified. Students are able to fire real competitions at the range with instructors present at the end of the course. The CMP provides equipment. Participants only need to be willing to learn. CMP currently offers Small Arms Firing Schools For Pistol (M9) and Smallbore Rifle (M16) during National Matches. There is also an Advanced SAFS course available for further training.

CMP Games competitors who have never fired in one of these matches must attend a clinic before firing. All other competitors are invited to attend. These free one-hour clinics will cover the Garand-Springfield-Vintage Matches with instruction and demonstrations. The topics include match rules, shooting techniques, scoring, pit pulling, and how to light the courses of fire. All competitors are welcome to attend the clinic. More experienced juniors may attend the USMC clinic, taught by current marksmanship professionals.BEGINNER — M1 Maintenance Clinic:

CMP Armorers will present a two-hour clinic on disassembly and assembly of the M1 Garand Rifle.
