CZ P09 vs. P10

The CZ P09 and CZ P10 are both great options for CZ fans who want something modern and polymer. Both full-size guns offer a lot and are certainly CZs. In the CZ P09 or P10 debate, which gun will you choose?
Today we’re going to compare CZ P09 and P10 to find the best handgun for you. One gun is striker-fired and the other is hammer-fired. But there are many other differences. While they may not make one gun more powerful than the other, it could make a difference.

These guns are both a bit big and will be used primarily for competition or general range purposes. They would also make great home defense weapons. However, if you plan on carrying them, the size difference might be more important. These guns are very heavy. These guns are small for their size but heavy enough to be carried without a belt. It’s not practical to carry them without a belt.
The gun’s height is the most important dimension when concealing these guns. These guns are almost identical. The CZ P10F is actually only one-twentieth an inch taller that the CZ P09. This is a small percentage difference for a gun this large. The grip shape can be affected by your clothing and the time you carry the gun.

The grip on the CZ P10F is more likely than the grip on CZ P09. The grip on the CZ P09 is more likely to conceal the P-09’s blockier grip. Both guns have large grips and are likely to print for most people. The guns will conceal well if you have a large enough shirt.
Ergonomics overall
These guns have a completely different ergonomics, despite what you might think. The CZ P10F F borrows its ergonomics from CZ 75. The CZ P09 is not a new design. CZ used the P-07 ergonomics to create the CZ P09. These ergonomics are new to CZ as an organization. They are discussed below.
Frame
Both frames have modularity built in to them. Both frames can be removed and replaced with smaller or larger backstraps. There are three sizes of backstraps available: small, medium, or large.
These backstraps don’t allow you to adjust the trigger reach of the guns. This is a problem, especially for those with larger hands. It would be nice if both guns could adjust your reach. This also means that there is no difference between the CZ P09 and P10.
Grip
The grips feel very different. The CZ P09 is more blocky. Although it doesn’t feel like the Glock, it does remind me in many ways. It feels more comfortable in the hand because it is more rounded at the front and rear edges. However, something at the grip’s front feels a little out of place and a bit blundery. It doesn’t fill my hand as much as it should.
The CZ P10F, on the other side, feels like a polymer CZ 75 without any side panels. The grip fills my hand completely and feels great in the hand. It feels very natural and I can also get a good grip on both guns. However, I find it slightly more difficult to do so with the CZ P09.

You might want to consider the length of your grip if you have extremely large hands. This rule won’t apply to 99.5%. These grips are massive and most people will be capable of gripping the gun with all their hands.
The CZ P10C will give you a little more grip length, but not enough, if you are one of those people who have extremely large hands. It will likely be the same dimension as the 20th of an inch we mentioned earlier.
Texture
This gun’s most distinctive feature is its texture. The texture of the CZ P09 firearm is horizontal lines on its front and backstraps. These lines are more aggressive on front straps and less so on the back. They are a little slick, but they do a good job of holding the hand in place. The gun could slip if you have very sweaty hands or slippery hands. The texture on the CZ P09’s side panels feels like higher-grit sandpaper. It has a decent texture but nothing extraordinary. It’s fairly standard.
The CZ P10F has some of my favorite texturing on a pistol. It may even be the best factory texturing I’ve ever seen on a striker-fired pistol. The texture of the CZ P10F has these small squares at the front strap, and backstrap that really dig into the hand.
They do a great job of holding the gun in place. However, when you take your hand off, they don’t cause any discomfort or pain for many hand types. The CZ P10 F side panels have just normal checkering. These small squares are not as aggressive as the texture on either the front or backstrap. The sides of the gun won’t cause irritation if you keep it close to your body or inside the waistband.
Slide
These guns have a similar profile to their slides, but the serrations are very different. The CZ P10F has sharp serrations on both the front and rear sides of the slide. Although the serrations at the rear work well, the serrations at the front of the gun don’t have as much effect. They were fine for press checks, but if you want to manipulate the gun in real life, I would like to see the serrations extend to reach the top of slide’s bevel.
The CZ P09, on the other side, has serrations on both the slide’s bevel at its front and at the rear. The rear serrations of the P-09 are shorter than the ones on the P10 F. This makes it more difficult to rack the slide. The bottom line is that if you rack the slide at the rear of your gun, it’s much easier to do so. However, if the slide is being rung using the front serrations, it will be easier to do so on the CZ P09.
Sights
Both guns come with a variety sight options. It’s difficult to choose between the CZ P09 and the P10 F. However, you can get both guns with factory CZ night sights. These sights aren’t very good. The front sight is dull and the rear sight doesn’t offer the best sight picture. These sights are a bit outdated. These sights can also be purchased with standard three-dot luminescent sight, but again, these sights are not inspiring. They are just your standard three-dot sight.
The CZ 10 F OR comes with an orange front view that has a tritium vial in its middle. This sight has a high contrast and works well. Although it’s not as sharp as other aftermarket sights, it works well. It also has a rear sight that is blacked out. This is a very nice feature. The CZP10 F OR has some of my favorite stock sights.

Aftermarket
Both guns can be fitted with aftermarket sight options. There are many more options for the CZ P10 than there are for the CZ P10. It’s a popular gun, and there are more aftermarket sight manufacturers. Aftermarket providers have more opportunities to make money the more guns there are. They will therefore put their resources and time there.
Red-Dot Optics
Only the P10 is cut from the factory for a red-dot. You can either have the P10 cut to accept a red dot or you can make it so it won’t. You will need to purchase your own plate to mount the red-dot if the P10 is cut with the dot. To save money, CZ doesn’t ship the gun with any mounting plate. The CZ P09 does not include an optic mount and is not available as a factory option. There are many aftermarket shops that can mill your CZP09 for an optic.
Controls
These guns have completely different controls, but they are almost identical in terms of the trigger systems. The CZ P09 uses CZ’s Omega trigger system, while the CZ P10F is a striker-fired pistol.
Safety
The CZ P10 F does not have any safety or external safety. However, it does have the trigger safety that is common on striker-fired pistols. But I don’t consider that a safety. Safety is what I mean by thumb safety. The CZ P09 offers the option to add a thumb protection to it.
The decocker is mounted on the gun when it ships. The Omega system allows you remove the decocker and replace it with a thumb safety. The thumb safety is in a similar position to a 1911. It’s easy to ride the thumb safety with your thumb while you’re shooting. It’s a well-designed safety, and that’s all I have to say about it. It is quite low-profile, but it still provides enough meat to be easily disengaged.
Trigger
These guns have very different triggers. The CZ P09 is a single-action, double-action gun. The CZ P10, on the other hand, is a striker-fired gun. Let’s take a closer look at each gun.
CZ P09 Trigger
The double-action trigger of the CZ P09 has a slight take-up. This will be felt immediately before the springy trigger build, and then a rolling stop. Although the trigger is decent, it’s not exceptional. It feels quite light for a double action, probably around the eight-pound mark. I don’t like to weigh triggers as it can be deceiving. Sometimes, the perceived weight of the gun is more important than its actual weight.
Single-action shooting will give you light take-up and make the gun feel very springy. You’ll feel some creep and it will get harder. After that, you’ll feel a nice rolling break. This SA trigger is really impressive. Although it’s not as simple as a single-action trigger for a 1911, it’s quite impressive.

The trigger reset on CZ P09 is also decent, but it might not be what your thinking. Before you hear a click, the trigger will release slowly and move forward. You’ll feel the trigger release at that point. The trigger on the CZ P09 is amazing.
CZ P10F Trigger
The trigger on the CZ P10 trigger is a standard striker-fired trigger so it will be easier to describe. As you release the trigger safety, you will feel your initial take up. From there, you will feel the slightest amount of creep. The trigger will then break. This trigger is harder to break than rolling but it’s still a great trigger. The CZ P10F trigger is my favorite striker-fired option. The gun will reset immediately after the reset. This click will be audible at the trigger’s trigger break. This trigger is very easy to use and it’s very quick.
It’s difficult to find the best trigger when comparing the CZP09 vs. P10. Are you looking for the features that you find in a double-action/single-action trigger or the features that you find in a striker-fired firearm? Before you can choose which gun is best for you, you will need to answer these questions.

Slide Lock
These guns also have very different slide locks. The slide lock for the CZ-09 can be found on the left side of your firearm, just in front of the thumb safety or decocker. The decocker blocks the slide lock from my thumb so I can barely reach it with my thumb. It’s large and easy to reach, but you will likely need to loosen your grip to get it. This slide release works best when you use your thumb to drop it. This will not work if you are a left-handed user.
The CZ P10F, on the other side, has an ambidextrous slidestop. The slide stop design of the CZ P10 F is unique in that it indexes from the center of the slot and can be dropped from either the right or left side of the gun. Because of how they index the slide, most guns are easier to drop from either the left or right side.
The actual slide stop is quite sharp at the top, and there isn’t much to grab onto. This design would likely make it difficult to hold onto your thumb if you were to take a class that required you to do 20-30 slide lock reloads. It’s sharp and low-profile, so it’s easy to grasp onto. Personally, I prefer the CZ P09 design (although I could not say if I was left-handed).
Magazine Release
These guns have almost identical magazine releases. They are both easy to reach, regardless of whether you have small or large hands. It’s also very easy for your thumbs to reach and drop down. The magazine release for the CZ P10 F has serrations, while the P-09’s has vertical lines. However, there is no difference in the release of these guns. Both can be reversible, so you could swap them to the right for a left-handed user.
Magazine Well
Both guns have a magazine well that is almost identical. Both guns are easy to load, but be sure to hit the reload button correctly as there isn’t much bubble in the interior.
Quality
These guns are fairly comparable in quality. The CZ P09’s polymer seems a bit better (as does the slide), but that’s probably just me talking. It could be the surface finish they use on these molds. The guns are of identical quality overall.
Aftermarket
The CZ P10 will have a larger aftermarket. It’s the most popular gun and is also more widely available. You will have more sight options, magazine release, slide stops, trigger kit options than you can imagine.
Aesthetics
The CZ P09 F is my favorite gun. It’s more pleasing to the eye. The CZ P10 grip has a large hump at its rear and the beavertail shape is a bit off. It is a somewhat odd-looking gun, whereas the CZ P09 has an elegant look and is well proportioned.
Shooting
I was surprised to find that the CZ P09 had more muzzle flip than I expected when I shot them. Although it’s still a very soft-shooting gun the muzzle rise is higher than I expected.
The CZ P10 F has a lower muzzle rise than the CZ P09, and the ergonomics of P10 really shine here to make it easy to grip the gun well. Texturing does a great job of controlling the gun’s recoil. The CZ P10F F shoots very flat and is extremely intuitive. The CZ P09 requires more skill and concentration. It can be difficult to maintain a steady grip on the gun and settle it.

Everybody will have a different opinion. However, I prefer the striker P10 to the CZ P09. I will admit that I prefer striker-fired pistols. The P10 ergonomics would make it much easier to choose the CZ P09, since the trigger on the P-09 is very nice. I think you can’t go wrong with either gun. It all comes down to which gun you prefer, a CZ P09 with a single-action double-action hammer system or a CZ P10 that has a striker-fired trigger.
Price/Value
MSRP for the P-09 is $555, and $579 on the P10. My opinion is that the price difference is not significant enough to make it a deciding factor.
