CZ USA Balances Size and Ballistic Performance in the Scorpion3+ Pistol

My CZ Scorpion Evo 3S1 Pistol has always been one of my favourite firearms. Since I first got it, I have loved the gun’s look, feel, performance, and feel. Although I had seen the CZ 3+ Micro, I had never tried the pistol version. It was only when I saw it at the 2022 Athlon Outdoors Rendezvous in Idaho that I realized this. The CZ Scorpion 3+ Pistol. I took it home and fired some rounds downrange. I fell in love with the platform again. The beautiful “ting” of 9mm steel plates smacking against each other was music to my ears. Is the 3+ pistol any better than my old one? That is a difficult question to answer. Let’s begin with the specs of the 3+. According to the CZ website, the new CZ Scorpion 3+ Pistol was actually limited in production. Although I don’t really understand why they limited the run, it seems that they are trying to make the Micro version the preferred 3+ variant. The micro version is smaller and more compact than its pistol counterpart. The pistol’s 7.8-inch barrel and the extra surface area on its handguard offer incredible control and zero muzzle flip. The Scorpion 3+ pistol balances its compact size with a better ballistic performance due to the longer barrel. The pistol is identical to the micro except for the length of the barrel and the handguard. CZ completely reworked this gun when they introduced the 3+ line. The new Scorpion 3+ model is a significant improvement on the previous models. They began with a number of cosmetic and control improvements that were all intended to improve the shooting experience and enhance the gun’s performance. The Scorpion 3+ Pistol Frame I find the most significant change to be the frame design. It is very similar to its bigger brother, the Bren 2. Although it has more controls, it looks cleaner. The new pistol grip adjusts shooter’s grip angle to fix the safety selector digging into your hands while shooting, which was a problem everyone hated with the original Scorpions. After shooting my first Scorpion S1, I was able to upgrade the safety selector and grip. I didn’t want to have that selector digging into me. This problem is solved with the 3+–for most people’s hands anyway. It not only has improved ergonomics and function, but it also looks better straight out of the factory. Another major change over the previous generation is the addition an AR-15-style magazine release. Also, the new black 20-round magazines are now available instead of the old clear ones. The new magazines will fit in your old-generation guns but they won’t work with the 3+. CZ made a huge mistake here, personally. The magazine release’s grip and rip design was the best thing about the original Scorpion. I can understand that shooters are more familiar with magazines containing AR-15 Magazines. They should have just left it alone, I think. It’s also a problem if you have magazines already, which I do. I cannot use them on the new platform without a lot of modification. The blot release for the 3+ was created from the old magazine release. It’s a bit awkward to use so I prefer the old-school charging handle. The Scorpion 3+ handguard The handguard has also been updated. CZ has replaced the handguard made of metal with a MLOK plastic version. This reduces heat and allows the shooter to keep his front hand on the handguard for longer periods of time when shooting hard. Each model comes with sturdy, aluminum iron sights and a Magpul handstop. The pistol version is 5.3 pounds and measures 15.2 inches in length. It is $300 cheaper than Micro, however. Although I don’t understand why, the new CZ Scorpion 3+ pistol is less than $1000. This is only if you can find one of these limited-production models. Visit www.CZUSA.com for more information.
