May 2nd 2023Last Week, oppressive legislation that would ban all suppressors, also known as “silencers”, in all 50 States was reintroduced to Congress. This sweeping suppressors ban is the result of two Democratic Party lawmakers, U.S. Senator Bob Menendez(D-NJ) and Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman(D-NJ). This unconstitutional law is called the “HEAR Act”. HEAR stands “Help Empower Americans To Respond”. The misleading name suggests that this law was designed to reduce noise pollution or protect hearing. This is not true. This misguided law would prohibit the possession, importation, manufacture, sale, and transfer of suppressors. The goal is to both ban suppressors and confiscate suppressors that are already in existence. GunsAmerica Digest explains that “the emphasis was added on possession for obvious reasons.” Even current can owners could be affected! In a press statement, Senator Menendez claimed that suppressors were commonly used by criminals. This is completely false. Menendez, the mendacious, said: “Gun Silencers are devices that are designed to suppress the sound from gunfire and prevent victims from running, hiding, taking cover, or calling the police in an active shooter scenario. This legislation would prevent armed attackers from using deadly devices which only make gun violence incidents more dangerous.”Sen. Menendez is a Washington figure with an interesting history. He was indicted on bribery and corruption charges in 2015. He stood trial in 2017 with a hung juror. According to the N.Y. Times and Politico he is under investigation for other questionable practices. SEE N.Y. Times Report. The sponsors of the legislation don’t acknowledge that acquiring a suppressor is a complicated and expensive process, involving background check, ATF paperwork, as well as a $200 Tax Stamp. Rep. As usual, Democrats ignore facts and push legislation that is based on false claims. Bonnie Watson Coleman has attacked the use silencers. She completely ignores how they are used safely by hunters and sportsmen around the world. Coleman says: “Silencers do not serve as tools of self-defense; they are murderous tools.” They have no legal use, which is why they have been banned by law enforcement officials across the country. “The HEAR Act would ban all future suppressor sales. The law would also allow the confiscation of suppressors that are already in existence via a buyback program using Byrne JAG grant funds. Current suppressor owners would have a 90-day grace period after the date of enactment to surrender their silencers/suppressors.GunsAmerica Digest notes: “Not surprisingly, the legislation is backed by a collection of the usual suspects.”U.S. Dianne Feinstein (D) (Calif. ), Ed Markey, (D) (Mass. ), and Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) are all listed as co-sponsors of the HEAR Act. Richard Blumenthal (D) (Conn.), Tim Kaine D (Va.), Alex Padilla D (Calif.), Mazie Hiroo D (Hawaii), Cory Booker D (New Jersey), Sheldon Whitehouse D (R.I.). Everyone is a Democrat. In Congress, HEAR Act sponsors include Reps. Jasmine Crockett(D-Texas), Rashida (D) Tlaib(D), Eleanor Holmes Norton(D.C.), Wiley NickelD-N.C.), Glenn IveyD-Md. Barbara Lee (D) (Calif.), Adriano Espaillat, (D) (N.Y.). All the co-sponsors of this bill are Democrats. This includes some of the most extreme legislators (such as Rashida Talib). The America Suppressor Association has condemned the reintroduction HEAR Act. “ASA is unambiguously opposed to any attempts to ban suppressors. We will never waver in our support for the Second Amendment and individual rights to own suppressors. We will fight it to the death. We will win because we have the facts on our sides.
