November 6, 2021. Whether you are using your cartridges from the bench or prone, it is great to have them in an easy-to-reach location. This article will show you how to build your own height-adjustable ammunition caddy for less than ten dollars. Martin Tardif is the author of this amazing Do-It Yourself (DIY), project. Martin’s flexible-arm caddy design is great for F-Open competitors and anyone who shoots from a pedestal front rest (on the ground or on a bench). The flexible arm attaches the ammo caddy to your front rest. The flexible arm allows you position your ammunition near your rifle’s feeding port. This makes it easy to grab cartridges, load them into your chamber, and move your shooting position. Martin Tardif deserves credit for his clever use cheap materials. Martin claims that the total cost of the entire project was only $8.00 Martin explains how to build the Ammo Caddy
Here are some photos of my DIY P.L.A.B. (Port Level Ammo Block). I bought a 3.5×1?? Goose neck from a Craftsman benty-style utility lamp and cannibalized it. Acetal disks are available on eBay. I then drilled the disk to accept twenty Winchester rounds of.284 Winchester and attached the disk to the benty arm. The arm was not strong enough to hold my full-loaded ammo block so I added a 1/8″ steel rod to the arm. I didn’t use the windage adjustment cable on this Bald Eagle rest. This allowed me to attach the arm’s bottom to the 5/16? x 18 bolt hole to accommodate the cable. [Editor’s note: You may need to drill an opening for the base of other pedestal rest brands or types.
