August 8th 2023Eliminating parallax errors — Nightforce Optics tech tipWhat is Parallax and Why Is It Important?
Parallax is an apparent movement of the scope reticle’s (cross-hairs), in relation to the target, as the shooter moves their eye across the exit pupil. This is due to the fact that the target and reticle are located in different focal planes. Why is it Important?
The parallax effect increases with distance and magnification. If parallax isn’t removed, it can cause significant sighting errors at long distances.
This Nightforce Tech Tip shows you how to quickly remove parallax from your riflescope. If parallax is detected, simply nod your head up and down while looking through the scope. To remove parallax from the riflescope, set the adjustment mechanism to infinity and then rotate the knob until the reticle is stationary in relation with the target despite head movement.
