ELR Factory Style – Savage.338 Lapua Magnum Shoots One mile

This story was a huge hit with our readers when we first published it a few years ago. If you missed it, here’s what a factory Savage 110BA can do at extreme long distance — 1760 yards (1 mile). Mark Dalzell, the shooter, did a great video. It features multiple camera angles so you can see both the shooter and target at the same. Enjoy! Enjoy! This video by Mark Dalzell shows the long-range capability of the Savage 110 BA chambered for.338 Lapua Magnum. Mark took his “BadAss’ rig to the southwest Nevada Desert just north of Jean Dry Lakes. He placed a target 2’x3″ a mile away — 1760 yards. At that distance, the flight time from target to shooter was only 3.75 seconds. Mark used a Nightforce NXS 5-22x50mm scope to sight in. It took him a few shots before he was able to hit the target. He then made multiple hits using 67 MOA elevation and 2.25MOA left windage. The hits can be seen starting at the 1:56 mark on the video. Mark had a second video camera set up closer towards the target. This displays frame-in-frame in the video. If you watch carefully, you can see the hits. The ammo used was HSM 250gr match HPBT with a 3.600” COAL. The shooting took place at 8:13 am in clear conditions with very light winds. Temperature was 57deg. Humidity was 24.5. Density altitude was 3666. The soundtrack for the video is La Grange, by ZZ Top. PLAY BUTTONListen to Mark talk about One Mile Shooting.

You had the elevation set up very precisely before you fired! This shows that you have a good understanding of the ballistics of your long-range ammo. We also noticed the effectiveness of the muzzle brake. Recoil was similar to an un-braked,.308 Win. .338 Lapua Magnum Cartridge Diagram
