March 9, 2023. Here are some helpful information for gun dealers and FFLs. The NSSF offers a special online training course, “Completion the ATF Form 447 23 Edition”. This web-based course is available to NSSF members via the SHOT University Online education centre. What do you need? The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives revised the form in December 2022 in order to meet new statutory requirements. These include the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, NICS Denial Notification act, and the ATF Final Rule (2021R-05F). The latest December 2022 edition of Form 4473 must be used by April 1, 2023. This training series focuses on key elements of Form 4473 (six-pages). It also provides tips and tricks for correcting common mistakes made by buyers and sellers. Module 3: Completing form 4473, Sections A-EThe NSSF states, “All FFL countersalespeople, compliance officers and records keepers should consider these SHOT University Online courses as vital training to enhance FFL instruction and reduce errors when using this new form.” FFLs can order the December 2022 Edition of Form 4473 from the ATF Distribution Center. The form is also available at www.atf.gov. The December 2022 edition must be used by April 1, 2023. The May 2020 edition must then be discontinued. The ATF has the new Form 4473 and continuation pages in English and Spanish. You can also access the PDF version online through SHOT University Online.
