April 21st 2023According to a report by the NSSF (Firearm Industry Trade Association), the total economic impact of firearms and ammunition in the United States has increased from $19.1 billion to $80.73 in 2022, a 322% rise. The total number of full-time jobs also increased from 166,000 to over 393,696 in that same time period, a 136% growth. READ FULL REPORT. The Firearms and Shooting Sports Industry Now Generates 393,696 Job in AmericaThe industry’s economic impact increased from 70.52 billion dollars in 2021 to $80.73 in 2022. The number of total jobs increased by 17,877 during the same time period, from 375 819 to 396 696. The firearm industry is a major contributor to the American economy. The gun industry creates jobs in other industries, such as printing, banking, retailing, accounting, metalworking and printing.
The firearms and ammunition industry paid more than $7.48 billion dollars in business taxes, including income, property, and sales-based taxes. A further $1.15 billion in federal excise tax was paid, which directly contributed to wildlife conservation. “Our industry’s contribution to the economy is undeniable in every state and community.” Joe Bartozzi is the President and CEO of NSSF. He said that this milestone achievement of more than $80 billion in economic impacts proves the strength of the American firearm and ammo industry. “Over 4.2 millions Americans from all walks, discovered their right to be lawful firearm owners last year and safely participated in recreational shooting sports. This growth means more jobs for our local economies. The average wage and benefit is $65,000, up from $56,900 last year. Since 2008, federal taxes have increased by 266%. Pittman-Robertson taxes that support wildlife conservation have increased by 226%. State business taxes are up by 46%.
