Ruger recently revealed an interesting new concept for a pistol red dot. Ruger ReadyDot Optic is a compact red dot that uses fiber optics to operate. It’s also not adjustable and has no controls to change windage or elevation. Why? The ReadyDot was designed to work with the iron sights on Ruger Max-9 pistols. Ruger claims that the optic will also work with compact optics-ready pistols that have the correct mounting pattern. The ReadyDot will co-witness with the irons, and be properly zeroed to use at typical pistol engagement ranges. This concept has one downside: the ReadyDot won’t work in zero-light conditions and may be difficult for users to use in low light environments. In normal conditions, the large 15-MOA dots should be easy to see and use. The simplicity of the red dots also results in two other advantages, namely high durability and low price. The zero is not able to be thrown out by accident or excessive shock because it has no adjustment mechanisms. It can also be marketed both as waterproof and shock-resistant. The final benefit of this little optic is the low price. It has an MSRP only $99.95.
