CZ has long been associated with the creation of exceptional handguns. They produce some of the most sought-after handguns on the competition and EDC markets. Dan Wesson is also respected. The CZ DWX Compact is the little brother of the full-size DWX. Wesson Firearms Co., Inc. was founded in 1968 by the CZ DWX Compact Wesson. His goal was to create the finest revolvers the shooting world has ever seen. His firearms are renowned for their innovation, indestructibility and match-grade precision. Today, the focus is on 1911s of the highest quality. Dan Wesson joined CZ, the world’s leading firearms manufacturer in 2005. CZ and Dan Wesson continue the legacy of Dan Wesson with exciting new products and innovations. The DWX was the most exciting and interesting of the new guns that came out of this mix. CZ and Dan Wesson added the DWX Compact to the DWX lineup in response to this success. DWX Compact Specifications The DWX Compact pistol inherits all the best features of two flagship pistols: the CZ 75, and the Dan Wesson. Both handguns are synonymous for quality, durability, performance, and reliability. The DWX Compact has the same premium features of the full-sized DWX, but in a smaller and more concealable package. Its lightweight aluminum body and shorter barrel makes it ideal for everyday carrying, while its ergonomic design improves the overall experience. The trigger is one of the most notable features. The crisp, single-action trigger comes from a Dan Wesson pistol and is combined ergonomics and capacity a CZ. A flat, K style trigger with a textured surface offers positive contact for 1911 shooters and a familiar feeling. The grip angle and contour are also reminiscent of the CZ 75, a pistol known for its comfort and control. The Compact Grip is a mixture of form and functionality. The DWX Compact uses the Ned Christensen-style frag pattern on its front, backstrap and Henning aluminum handles for a comfortable shooting session that provides traction. The low-profile grip design places the shooter’s hands naturally high in the beavertail to maximize recoil control. Compatibility of the CZ 75 Compact grip with the DWX allows for customization with aftermarket options. This is a great bonus for CZ15 shooters, and anyone looking to customize their gun. The DWX Compact, as mentioned, has some 1911 DNA inserted. However, in some cases it is slightly altered. The four-inch bushing-less barrel is linkless and adds strength. The CZ-style slide stop allows for easy field maintenance. The new pistol, which borrows the time-proven CZ 75 Compact magazine body with double-stack, has a 15+1 cartridge capacity and Henning aluminum base pad for added durability. CZ and Dan Wesson did a great job choosing sights that are effective for both personal protection and competition. It uses an Ameriglo 19 night front sight, and a fixed Battlehook rear site. It is easy to slip into and out of the holster and allows for rapid target acquisition, day or night. Both are rugged and dependable. Other great features include low-profile safeties, reversible magazine release, solid front and rear serrations to improve grip when cocking, and a reversible magazine release. A DLC (diamond like coating) protects all the metal surfaces of the pistol from corrosion and wear. A Solid Performance It was an honor to be able to test a DWX Compact before its launch. The gun is built to the same high standards that we have come accustomed to from CZ and Dan Wesson. This is not an easily thrown together project. The action is smooth and has a mixture of tight tolerances, but it’s not an ammo divas. It quickly proved to be a serious gun on the range. The DWX follows the same ergonomics and low bore axis that I have always enjoyed with CZ pistols. I wanted to test a variety of ammo, so I selected three of my favorites: Hornady 115gr FTX Critical Defense and Blazer Brass 115gr Fmj. The gun cycled all the ammo without any issues, and they performed well. The gun’s recoil was easily controlled. The gun weighs just over 30 ounces, which helps it absorb some of the recoil from 9mm without being heavy. The gun was easy to manipulate, and the slide serrations were a good way to grip the gun without removing any skin. The magazine well is slightly beveled and feeds easily. I can see competition shooters adding a little aftermarket to this. The Gun Lives Up to the Hype Overall the gun is all that it is advertised to be. This gun will be noticed by the competitive world, but I think it’s a great EDC gun. It has been rounded and sanded to be comfortable in both the hands and the body. When the original DWX was launched with the hybrid CZ / 1911, I was sceptical. It looked great on paper, but I was unsure how it would perform. The development of a pistol that was truly exceptional became a reality. Now CZ and Dan Wesson has succeeded in taking this magic and putting in a compact package. Two thumbs up.
