First Shot at 1500 Yards – Could You Do That?

File photo of Kestrel Elite 5700. Video below for the 6.5 Creedmoor. It’s difficult to hit the target with your first shot at 1500 yards. You need to know your muzzle velocity and measure the wind speed precisely. A sophisticated ballistics calculator is also necessary. In this video from Ryans Range Report the shooter hits a steel silhouette with his first round at 1500 yards. He used the Kestrel Weather Meter 4500 NV with Applied Ballistics Software to calculate the trajectory of his 6.5 Creedmoor round. The Kestrel measured the wind velocity and the internal software calculated 17 Mils elevation (928 inches of drop), with 2.5 Mils of windage. “Bang” — The shooter sends the bullet, and 2.6 second later “Clang”, he has a hit. (Flight time was 2.6 sec). Bryan Litz observes, “This is science of accuracy (in form of an Applied Ballistics Kestrel), being put to good work at 1500 yards”. In the video (1.05-1.15), the shooter fires three rounds at steel at a distance of 1000 yards within 10 seconds. The three shots are all within 10” — impressive for rapid firing. The shooter says: “[In 6.5 Creedmoor] i’m using a 136gr Lapua Scenar. This bullet has impressed. Aaron Roberts, of Roberts Precision Rifles, built the rifle. It screams at 2940 fps from my barrel and holds all the way to 1,500 yards. It is chambered for 6.5 Creedmoor and features a Leupold 3-18x44mm Mark VI scope. Roberts Precision Rifles
