Close [embedded material] Another body cam video is making its rounds on social media. The video shows a woman in Florida holding a knife and being tased at the scene by a Sheriff’s deputy. The video clearly shows the country’s growing drug problem. However, the good news is that things turned out well. This time, it was a success. RELATED STORY: Marion County Sheriff’s Office Responds to Summerfield Walmart Robbery Deputy Christopher Witte arrived at the store at 1:30 and found Brandy McGowan, 32, holding a knife. McGowan was making incoherent statements, and threatening customers and employees with the pocketknife. Breitbart reports that McGowan entered Walmart with a brick in her hand and began to intimidate customers as she walked around the Walmart. McGowan found a package [pocketknife] in her hand and used it to gain access to the weapon. She continued to threaten shoppers and workers until Witte, then Thomas arrived, the MCSO stated.” Deputy Witte pulled out his service pistol and demanded McGowan drop the knife. McGowan refused to give up her position and continued to resist all of the demands. McGowan claimed that she didn’t kill her family, according to Deputy Witte. According to a Law & Crime report, McGowan claimed that she didn’t kill her family. However, according the probable [cause] affidavit of [Witte], she stated that she did not kill her family and also mentioned a man named Bill.” The story states that the Marion County Sheriff’s Department doesn’t have any reason to believe that her comments were related. A welcome distraction As Deputy Witte tried to get McGowan to drop his knife, Property Crimes Detective Pamela Thomas arrived. Deputy Witte was able switch to his Taser while McGowan was distracted. Deputy Witte gave the order to drop his knife one more time before deploying the taser on McGowan. According to Law & Crime, “The woman, Brandy Joe McGowan (32), fell back stiffly, bouncing off clothing shelves onto the floor.” If the taser is released, you will be riding the lighting if your refusal to comply. Although it was difficult to see her motive, it became clearer after her arrest. According to the Law & Order report, McGowan was taken to the hospital for evaluation. McGowan was taken to Marion County Jail, where she is being held in lieu a $1,000 bond. According to the Sheriff’s Department she is facing a charge of aggravated assault using a deadly weapon, with intent to kill. Walmart has not stated that it will pursue retail theft charges against the store manager. All’s well that ends well. Fortunately, Deputy Witte was calm and took the opportunity to change to a less-lethal weapon. It is also fortunate that McGowan did not indict Witte and further escalate the situation. Although this could have been completely different, McGowan was able to get the help that she needed thanks to the actions of the officers. People, take it seriously. Don’t do drugs.
