The Civilian Marksmanship Program and the Garand Collectors Association launched the Master Marksman Program last year for CGA members. This program was designed to reward CMP matches that were held with As-Issued M1 Garands. A competitor must be an active member of the GCA to participate. Garand competitors can easily join the GCA through the GCA’s website. Garand competitors can even join on the day of a match. The CGA/CMP Master Marksman Program is based on a point system similar to the CMP Distinguished Badge Program. This system is based on the performance at CMP events. The points are divided into Gold (10 pts), silver (8 pts), and bronze (6 pts). The competitors must reach 40 points in total, with at least one gold and an additional gold or silver. All other points can be bronze or higher. In 2023, the GCA’s Master Marksman Award was awarded to 16 GCA members. Only M1 Garands in their original condition may be used. The CMP Games Rifle and Pistol Competition Rulebook will be used to define the competition rules for the John C. Garand match (Course: 30 rounds). Re-entry shooters will only be allowed to use their highest score for points.
