Good Videos for PRS/NRL and Tactical Marksmen

Ryan Cleckner, a former Army Ranger and sniper instructor, is the author of Long Range Shooting Handbook. Cleckner hosts videos that cover tactical and PRS-type shooting techniques. Here are five short videos covering different aspects of rifle setup and shooting techniques. These videos are aimed at PRS/NRL competitors and long-range hunters. “Consistency will lead to accuracy.” You should think about a shooting system that is comfortable and repeatable. — Ryan Cleckner. In this first video Cleckner explains the proper scope position. Ryan Cleckner has found that some shooters position the scope too far in front or too far back. If you place the scope too far back, you may experience issues with eye relief or stock reach to shoulder. If the scope is too far back, you could have problems with cheek-weld or neck strain. Cleckner suggests a simple way to check the scope position. “To see if it is set up correctly, close your eyes and lay your head down on your gun. Get comfortable. Only when you have set yourself up, open your eyes.” If you cannot see clearly through your telescope, change something (such as the comb height or the scope position)”. When you open your eyelids, if there is a scope shadow (i.e. When it is possible, Cleckner prefers to shoot from a bag in the prone position. The bag is more stable than a bipod of the Harris type, does not require pre-loading, and has less bounce on recoil. Ryan Cleckner, former Army Ranger sniper and team leader, explains the importance of keeping your rifle straight when precision shooting at long range. Cleckner shows with an AR-10 modern sporting gun how a slight cant in your rifle can result in a miss at long distances. Cleckner explains some of the basics of trigger control for tactical-style rifles. These principles apply to both two-stage and single-stage triggers. NOTE: For benchrests with ultra-light weights of pull, more refined techniques might be appropriate. When you’re in a tactical event and shooting on the clock, while loading from a detachable mag, you should be manipulating the bolt with strength but smoothness. Cleckner shows how to cycle a tactical rifle. He says that you should be moving the bolt of your rifle with authority. Run it like you Mean It! NOTE: Different techniques are appropriate for custom-made benchrest rifles with manually fed bolts. Long Range Shooting Handbook – A Good ResourceCleckner’s Long Range Shooting Handbook is a comprehensive guide that covers both technical and shooting topics. You can view Sample Chapters of Ryan’s Book at Amazon.com. Cleckner’s Book is designed to introduce key concepts, such as MOA vs. Mils and Environmental Effects. Cleckner offers personal tips and advice from his years of experience as both a sniper trainer and special operations sniper. The Long Range Shooting Handbook has three main categories: What it Is/How it Works, Fundamentals and How to Use. The “What it is/How it works” section covers terminology, equipment, and basic principles. “Fundamentals”, which covers the theory behind long range shooting, is covered in “Fundamentals”. How to Use It gives you practical advice on how to apply what you have learned so that you can become a skilled long range shooter. This is one of the most useful resources for tactical shooters, PRS/NRL competitors and PRS/NRL competitions.
