Gov. Conn. Gun Control is used as a smokescreen to cover crime failures

Ned Lamont isn’t as famous as his gun control governor colleagues, like New York’s Democratic Governor. Kathy Hochul, New Jersey’s Democratic Governor. Phil Murphy or California’s Democratic Governor. Gavin Newsom. Gavin Newsom’s recent gun control proposal is arguably better than any of them. However, he is using it as a smokescreen. RELATED STORY A Rasmussen Poll shows that Americans reject more gun control. The Gun Control Smoke Screen hides failed crime policies Connecticut’s governor took a page out of the Biden administration and tried to divert attention away from failings to address rising criminality by calling for increased gun controls. Gov. Lamont stated in a press conference that “You can’t be tough on crime if your guns are weak.” We will continue to be tough on guns.” That’s a lot of obfuscation. Gov. Lamont is trying to confuse voters by bringing up two unrelated issues in a reelection year. Lamont is running for re-election to keep his job. Instead of admitting that he has not done anything to address crime in the state, he proposes policy changes that would destroy firearm retailers and individual gun rights for law-abiding citizens. You can read it again. Gov. Lamont doesn’t intend to target criminals but only those who follow the law. Layered bureaucracy Gov. Lamont stated that he was proud of Connecticut’s gun laws. “But that’s just not enough. He said that he was just shocked at the changes he’s seen in the last couple of years. He saw in his state a significant increase in legal firearm sales, the highest in five years. This is happening in the middle “defund the police” schemes that Hartford, New Haven, and Bridgeport have embraced, as well as rising crime in those cities. Likewise, Gov. Lamont’s proposals will not do much to hold criminals accountable. For example, the chief among Gov. Lamont’s gun control wishlist includes the creation of a state-level firearm licensing office to enforce Connecticut’s strict laws. The governor stated that Connecticut’s lack of state licensing for gun dealers makes enforcement of the laws difficult for the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection. The governor ignores the fact that every Connecticut firearm retailer is required to be licensed and regulated through the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. A state-level licensing agency is not just bureaucracy. It is also a tool to crush local gun shops into oblivion. Ignoring Law Abiding Gun Owner Concerns Gov. Lamont’s administration has a history of dismissing or outright disregarding gun retailer and gun owner rights and concerns. Last year, officials from the Lamont administration ignored retailers’ requests for strong guidance and assistance during the state’s poorly-managed transition to its background check system. Now, Gov. Now, Gov. However, criminals will continue to illegally sell and steal guns on the black marketplace. This legislation will only affect those who follow the laws. Gov. Lamont’s goal? To use the new laws against the lawful sector to ensure law-abiding Connecticut residents have the opportunity to exercise their Second Amendment rights. Blue State Red Tape Governor. Lamont’s proposals include a mandatory registration of so called “ghost guns” that were manufactured before the state’s 2019 ban. They also propose expanding a ban against so-called assault weapons purchased prior to 1993 state laws to requiring registration. They also propose expanding firearm storage laws, even though Connecticut already has mandatory storage laws. And, they enact a “stop-and-frisk” policy to allow police to check carry permits for openly carrying firearms. Second Amendment supporters are roaring in protest. The governor was also criticized by Connecticut’s top-ranking Republicans on its House Judiciary and Public Safety Committee. “While lawful Connecticut citizens are being victimized almost daily by brazen criminals who have little fear of punishments, the governor has chosen an age-old election-year tactic to attack law-abiding firearm owners in an attempt to distract from his government’s utter failures to address criminal justice policies,” Reps. Craig Fishbein, Greg Howard, said. Other Constitutional rights and Second Amendment groups, including the non-partisan Connecticut Citizens Defense League (CCDL), denounced the proposals. CCDL said that parts of Gov. “It is clear that Governor Lamont’s gun control package is out of touch with Connecticut residents as thousands of Connecticut residents have become new permit holders in the last year.” Connecticut is experiencing the same bait-and switch that President Joe Biden tried in New York City. He was there to tackle crime, but he only pitched a series gun control proposals. The president did not offer any plans to tackle crime. Hartford is seeing the same thing. Unfortunately for Connecticut the governor is just a little too squeamish about locking up criminals, as he is about locking down gun shops.
