May 7, 2022Guide to IMR Enduron Pulses — Temp Stable and Reduced FoulingHave any of you tried IMR Enduron powders (IMR 4166 or 4451, 4955 or 4955, 7977 or 8133)? We are impressed by what we have seen. IMR’s Enduron extruded Powders offer excellent temperature stability, reduced copper fouling and good load density for many popular cartridges (such.223 Rem., 6mmBR.,.308 Win.,.30-06., 300 WSM, to name a few). IMR 4166 has been reported by some Forum members as a great option for the 6mmBR, Dasher and 6.5×47 Lapua cartridges. One member wrote that the 4166 gave speeds and accuracy almost identical to Varget in his 6.5×47. Other shooters have also observed less copper fouling when using Enduron series powders. IMR’s Enduron antifouling chemistry seems to work. IMR now offers five (5) Enduron Powders: IMR 4166; IMR 4451; IMR 4955; IMR 7977 and IMR 8133. Enduron powders are a great alternative to difficult-to-find extruded products. Enduron powders are well-suited for most types of precision cartridges. IMR 4166, for example, is a great replacement for Hodgdon Varget in the.223 Rem and 6mmBR, whereas IMR 4955 is a fine alternative for H4831, which is preferred by F-Open shooters for 7mm WSM and the.284 Win cartridges. IMR 5955 is a substitute for H4831. The Enduron Line-Up of Five PowdersIMR now has five Enduron powders with a wide range of burn rate. They can be used with a variety of cartridges, including small varmint cartridges up to the.338 Lapua Magum. It burns at the fastest speed for cartridges such.308 Win and 7.62mm NATO, 22-25 Rem, 257 Roberts, and 22-250 Rem. IMR 4166 is a versatile propellant that can be used in match-grade applications. It is comparable to Hodgdon(R). Varget. IMR 4451 is a mid range burn speed powder that is well suited to cartridges such as.270 Winchester and.30-06, and 300 Winchester Short Magnum. This powder is comparable with Hodgdon H4350. IMR 4955 is a powder with medium burn speed, falling between IMR 4451 to IMR 7977 in terms of burn speed. It is highly effective in large game cartridges like 25-06, 280 Remington, and 300 Winchester Magnum. This powder is comparable in performance to Hodgdon H4831. IMR 7977 is a slower burning powder in the Enduron family. The powder’s loading density is ideal for magnums. This magnum propellant is outstanding in.300 Winchester Magnum (7mm Remington Magnum) and.338 Lapua Magnum (.338 Lapua Magnum). IMR 7977 is comparable with Hodgdon H1000. IMR 8133 IMR Enduron 8333 is the slowest burning rate in the Enduron range. The large magnums, including those with 6.5mm and 7mm diameters, have a perfect loading density. This magnum propellant is a true powerhouse, with outstanding performance in 6.5-300 Weatherby and.264 Win Mag, 28 Novler, and.300 Rem U Mag, among others cartridges. It is available in one-pound (1 lb), eight-pound (8 lb) containers at quality retailers such as Graf & Sons and Midsouth. These powders will sell quickly so make sure to check frequently.
