Henderson Case Trimmer Review — Fast and Very Repeatable

November 19, 2021 Henderson Case Trimmer Review — Fast and Very Repeatable F-Class John, a friend and colleague, tests some of the best reloading equipment and shooting equipment available. He recently added the Henderson Gen 3 Powered Trimmer (the best) to his toolbox. John is now a Henderson enthusiast. The speed, precision and repeatability of the Henderson machine, which costs $779.00, is what John likes. It trims-to length and chamfers case mouths in one pass. The Henderson indexes the case length, not the shoulder, unlike other trimming tools. John found that this worked well for his.284 Winchester brass. All of the brass had been fully sized before trimming. John appreciated the precision of the Henderson trimmer, as well as the overall design of this machine. It offers excellent ergonomics and precise alignment of the cases. As you can see in the videos, cycling is easy and enjoyable. John’s.284 Win brass fit over the pilot well, but other users might need to adjust their case necks to accommodate their pilot. The Henderson trimmer is demonstrated in action in the video. The case moves inward towards the cutter blade precisely thanks to the dual horizontal support shafts. The Taper Lock cutter offers a 14-degree inside and 30-degree outside chamfer. The trimming process is consistent, case by case. The Henderson’s design captures brass shavings well. Testing Trim Length Consistency — Henderson Shows Superb Repeatability
John performed a quick test to verify the Henderson unit’s trim length consistency. John measured the overall length of the case using digital calipers and found that it could be held within.001? (one-thousandth). Even when trimming cases quickly, the consistency was exceptional. What about trimming.003? John stated that Henderson demonstrated exceptional repeatability when trimming.003? from his cases. Henderson promises that the trimmer will “repeat to within 0.002?” John was able hold 0.001? with the same brand of brass. length consistency. Another Henderson owner wrote: “I love my Henderson. I like the consistent trim length and positive stop. It’s so easy to do the trim, chamfer and debur in one step. I noticed the pilot problem on my cutting head immediately with my sized cases. I used fine grit sandpaper to polish the pilots on my cutting head until I found the right neck tension setting. I am very happy with the purchase of the Henderson precision cutter. Henderson Power Trimmer vs. Giraud power trimmer F-Class John compared his new Henderson trimmer to his Giraud high-volume power trimmer. He likes both machines but prefers the Henderson to trim his.284 Winchester match-brass. He noticed a drop in his ES/SD when he used the Henderson to trim brass compared to brass trimmed using the Giraud. John was able to achieve an ES of 15 FPS for 49 shots using the Henderson-trimmed brass. This is quite impressive (see photo right). The Giraud has its advantages. It can work with calibers higher than.338, and it’s very fast. One viewer commented on this video: “The Giraud’s speed is amazing if you don’t load insane precision ammo. When I started reloading, I borrowed one and ordered one immediately. I have trimmed approximately 40-50k.223 boxes. You can just rip them through while you watch TV or listen to a podcast. It trims to a length that is consistently less than +/-.001 throughout the day. The Giraud indexes off the shoulder, while the Henderson trims based upon Cartridge Overall Length.
