Product Review by F Class John

Long range shooting is all about being able adjust for wind angle/velocity changes. It’s one thing to be able to read flags, mirage, and surface conditions to determine the wind speed and direction. But it’s quite another to be able to use that information to decide how much to correct or hold off. It can take years or decades to learn how to process changing winds cycles and determine the correct hold-off/correction. You simply need to enter a few numbers from your favorite ballistic calculation and the App will adjust the wind direction and power dials. The App will then tell you what your hold should look like and if you should add windage to your scope. After you have entered the data, the App will suggest the correct corrections. Download the Wind Lab App on iPhones/iPads from the Apple App Store or download for Android devices via Google Play. The App will open with a simple menu that allows you to create a session. The first field is used to name the session. This field is useful for people who want to save their strings and refer to them later, but it’s not required. Next, you can choose your target. The App allows you to choose from High Power or F Class targets at mid-range (600 meters) or long-range (800-1000 metres). After selecting the target you want, enter the distance at which it will be shot. Next, enter your load data. After saving shots, the next two fields will automatically populate with the date and the shot list. You can change what is visible on the screen by selecting the features you wish to see. You can also select MOA (milliradians), click values. You can choose MPH, kilometers per an hour, or meters/second to determine wind velocity.

High Power Wind Lab iPhone App in horizontal view. Although the App can be used in either landscape or portrait mode, I recommend landscape for the best user experience. There are four sections on the target page. The windage dial is located at the bottom. You can add or subtract windage by simply moving it left or right. You’ll find wind flags above the windage dial that represent the power, and above that the direction dial. The actual target is located on the right. Here you can see the bracket that you should hold for your shot based upon the information you have provided. There are also color-coded brackets that will show you the margin to error. You can tap the target section to see where you held it, and then tap where your actual impact was. These photos can be saved for future reference. This App’s real power comes to life when you can practice your calls from the comfort of home. App available now for Android and Apple Mobile Devices

The High Power Wind Labs App for iOS (Apple), and Android devices is now available. This App is less expensive than twenty 7mm match rounds at $12.99. This app can save you as much as $80 on sighters over a couple of range sessions. It can calculate almost every condition that you might encounter at a match so you should download it and get started practicing. This interactive application is invaluable for shooters who want to understand the effects of wind on bullets over long distances. It was created by Accuracy Software Ltd. High Power Wind Lab is a visual tool that allows shooters to determine wind value based upon observed conditions. The App calculates the correct sight correction to hit the target’s center. High Power Wind Lab can be used on or off the range to explore different scenarios and learn more about how wind affects the trajectory a bullet. The display dynamically adjusts to show the calculated correction. It also visualizes possible outcomes if the shooter misunderstands the wind conditions. The High Power Wind Lab allows you to change the wind velocity or wind angle. It also shows possible outcomes if velocity and wind angle are not correct. This interactive tool is invaluable in exploring the interplay between wind velocity and wind direction, and the tradeoffs that you need to make when deciding when and how to shoot. This can be a powerful tool for analyzing your shooting results.

A collection of commonly-used Long Range and Midrange F-Class and High Power Rifle targets. The Hold-Over Function in High Power Wind Lab is explained in this video by the creator of High Power Wind Lab. Scoped rifle shooters who shoot long range targets often hold over. This video shows how High Power Wind Lab’s holdover feature can be used to calculate the required hold-over when engaging long-range targets.
