If you lose your keys, you can track it using your phone. The app displays a map showing the exact location of your AirTag, along with the item. Vice reported that Apple’s AirTag was unveiled one year ago. It is a half-dollar-sized coin with a speaker and Bluetooth antenna inside. This allows users to keep track of missing items. Attach an AirTag to your keys, wallet, purse, or car. If it is lost, the device will ping all nearby Apple products with Bluetooth enabled to triangulate its location. Motherboard forecasted that the device would be used for stalking and harassing women. They reached out to dozens more police departments across the country, asking for records that mention AirTags in a period of eight months. 50 of the 150 cases involved women calling because they were notified of tracking via an AirTag that they didn’t have. Brietbart reports that 25 of those 50 cases were women who could identify a person in their lives who had placed the AirTags on their bodies in an attempt to stalk them. Stay Vigilant The women reported that their current and former romantic partners were using AirTags in order to harass and stalk them. According to the reports, exes and jealous partners are the most common users of the device. Human trafficking is a serious concern. Although there is no evidence to support this, it is possible. The AirTag was attached in one way to the victim’s car in the cases reported. Some were hidden behind the license plate, others inside the gas door. If you have an iPhone, you will most likely be notified if there is an AirTag nearby following you. If you were using another device, however, you would not be able to know. Vice reports that AirTags have always had a notification feature that alerts people with iPhones when an AirTag is travelling with them. However, anyone without an iPhone or Apple device would not know. To rectify this problem, Apple created an Adroid app that will notify you when an AirTag is present. Apple also recently announced additional security features such as warning users about misuse, precise tracking of the AirTag and louder chimes. Criminals still work around security measures. To mark a vehicle for stalking or carjacking, perpetrators attach the AirTag. Because of its small size, it is easy to slip into a purse or other bag. Do not ignore any strange chirping sounds or notifications on your smartphone. They may be alerting to you to a problem. You might also consider purchasing an AirTag to tag your pistol.
