The Wind Book for Rifle Shooters, by Linda Miller and Keith Cunningham. Published in 2007, this book is an excellent resource. You don’t need to take our word. Other books discuss wind reading as part of a larger discussion on ballistics or long range shooting. The Miller & Cunningham Book is all about wind reading, from cover to finish. Ryan Cleckner’s ability to explain complicated topics in a simple manner is well-known. Cleckner has written a book called the Long Range Shooting Handbook that expands on topics covered in Cleckner’s popular NSSF videos. The Long Range Shooting Handbook has three main categories: What it Is/How it Works, Fundamentals and How to Use. Are you looking for ways to make it easier to shoot from unconventional positions? Marcus Blanchard’s Practical Shooter’s Guide is a great resource for unconventional firing positions and training. Blanchard’s book is different from most “how-to” books on the market. It focuses on the skills and positions that you need to be successful in PRS matches or similar tactical competitions. Blanchard gives clear advice on shooting at steep angles, from roofs, and from barricades. The book covers every aspect of benchrest: loading, windflags and rest set-up. It also addresses the rifle and matches strategies. This is a publication of high quality, full of valuable insights. Tony’s book is a must-read for every serious benchrest shooter. Boyer’s dominance of registered benchrest will never be replicated. He has amassed 142 U.S. Benchrest Hall of Fame Points. Frank Galli, a former USMC scout sniper, explains techniques that will benefit any PRS/NRL competitors. Galli also offers wind-reading tips along with position shooting advice. Galli’s book was published in 2020. It is four years younger than Blanchard’s, and therefore includes more modern gear and equipment. Galli’s book explains the basics of precision marksmanship in an easy-to understand manner. The book follows the same instructional process Galli uses during his live marksmanship courses. This well-illustrated 272-page book, published in 2020, covers the latest tactical equipment (scopes and LRFs as well as chassis systems, magazines, bags and bipods) used by tactical competitors at PRS/NRL matches.
