DRVT — DRAG VELOCITY REDUCTION TECHNOLOGYHornady engineers developed and patented Drag Variability Reduction Technology, DVRT, to increase the uniformity in bullet drag from shot-to-shot, resulting less dispersion at a long range. Hornady ballisticians analyzed thousands of Doppler drag curves to isolate a bullet tip that would reduce the variations in drag between bullets. The meplat, which is flat and not pointed, must have a diameter that is proportional to the diameter of the bullet. A flat tip of the bullet was found to provide a more consistent drag. Introducing DVRT ™ from Hornady Manufacturing. After the refinement of the design feature in late 2018 DVRT was integrated into all bullets that use the Heat Shield tip and the A-Tip Match Bullet. While DVRT’s patent was pending, shooters benefited quietly from this design over several years. Hornday has now published details of Drag Variability Reduction Technology, now that the patent has been issued, on its website. The Hornady Podcast below explains the development of DVRT through extensive field research using Doppler radar. Bullets with Drag Varity Reduction Technology (A-Tip(r), Match)
