How Guns Work – 3D Animations of 1911 & Glock Pistols

These three videos demonstrate how the Model 1911 pistol works. To fire this pistol, the hammer must be cocked. You can see the operation of trigger, hammer firing pin and slide in the video. After firing a round, the slide retracts and the cartridge is ejected. As the slide is being put back into battery, a new round is fired in the magazine and chambers. This video shows the Glock 19 (Gen. 4) pistol with 3D animation. It is a comparison to the Model 1911. This modern striker-fired pistol is made of polymer and has constant trigger pull for all shots. This trigger is sometimes called a DAO (double action-only) trigger, but this is not true. A Glock has no external safety, unlike the Model 1911. The central blade is included in the trigger “shoe”, which is the part that contacts the finger. This prevents the gun’s firing unless the trigger is depressed normally. This is what Glock calls the “safety action”.
