September 20th, 2021 Wind Reading Skills for Hunters — Lessons From Haugland
September 25th, 2021 is National Hunting and Fishing Day. Your chances of a successful hunt can be improved by improving your wind reading skills. Image courtesy of NHFDay.org. Thomas Haugland is a member of Shooters Forum from Norway and a long-range hunter and target shooter. He created a video that shows how to measure wind speed by looking at trees, grass, or other natural vegetation. Although the video commentary is in English and the units of wind speed (and length) are metric, it does not include a metric unit. Haugland says: “This isn’t a tutorial. It’s a quick heads-up to help you draw the lines between these dots yourself. 1 m/s = 2.2 mph
4 m/s = 8.9 mph It then shows you how to calculate holdoffs using the Reticle Hash-Marks. Thomas shoots a Blaser R93 rifle that is fast-cycling with Norma 6XC ammo. More Videos from Norway
You can also find many other videos on Haugland’s YouTube Channel. These include Game Stalking and Precision Reloading, Shooting Fundamentals, and Tips on how to use the Mildot Reticle with a scope that has MOA-based clicks.
