After the cancellation of the event in 2021 due COVID, this was the first Industry Day at the Range for two years. After a two-year wait, media members were delighted to see the latest guns & optics. True Pearce, GunsAmerica Digest Editor, and his colleagues were present at the Boulder City gun range in Nevada to test a variety new firearms. Many new products were on display, including new rifles, pistols and optics. Savage Impulse Elite Precision Rifle. There was a lot of interest in Savage’s new straight pull tactical rifle, the Impulse Elite Precision. It will be available in “spring 2022”. The Daily Bulletin recently covered this new rifle. True Pearce was able to test the new rifle at the Savage Range booth. He said that the straight-pull action can increase rifle cycling speed with a little practice: “It’s faster to chamber follow up shots, and it stays on target.” His video report shows that even novice shooters can chamber a second shot faster than with a standard rotating bullet.
Bolt cycling is demonstrated in the video beginning at 3:00. GunsAmerica Digest writer Levi Sims explained why the Savage has a straight-pull operation. “Normal bolt action guns require that you lift the bolt handle and pull it back. Then push it forward and pull it back down to lock it. Manufacturers have reduced the 90deg throw of traditional optics to 60deg to make it easier for the bolt to pass the bell. Straight-pull reduces movement to just pulling forward and backward on bolt handle. Although the handle swings a little forward and back to lock/unlock it, there is no vertical movement. It will likely work well with all scope designs. This product is not eligible for Production Class under the PRS 2021 Rules. The Impulse Elite Precision is currently offered by Savage with seven chamberings. The smaller chamberings have 26-inch barrels, while the.300,.300 Win Mag and.338 LM have 30-inch barrels. True Pearce, Tisa PX-9 Gen III Pistol GunsAmerica Digest Editor, tested a variety of handguns Monday. The Tisa PX-9 Gen III 9mm pistol was his favorite, based on “bang-for-the-buck”. Jordan Michaels, a GunsAmerica Digest staffer, reported that the PX-9 performed well. “Most importantly the gun shoots. True Pearce, GunsAmerica editor, was impressed by the gun’s ergonomics as well as the quality trigger. It’s a joy to shoot, and it reminds us of the H&K VP9 or the SIG P320.” This modern pistol was made in Turkey. There are many options. “The PX9 Gen III is available in three configurations: the Duty, Duty Threaded and the Tactical Threaded. The MSRP for each configuration varies from $500 to $600, but all three are chambered with 9mm and include a slide cut for RMR footprint optics. All three come with 18- and 20-round magazines [. The PX-9 has a removable flared magwell and interchangeable side- and back grip panels. The PX-9 has three options for each panel and 27 different grip combinations to suit any size hands.” Click here for more GunsAmerica Digest Rifle & Pistol Tests >>
