Larry Vickers: Don’t waste money on Tacticool gear

Larry Vickers: Don’t waste money on Tacticool Gear, May 23rd 2023Larry Vickers has been a firearms trainer for the U.S. Special Operations Forces since 1993. In his teaching, he has learned that many gun owners waste their money on useless gun accessories. Vickers examines the trend of over-accessorizing firearms and AR-platform rifles in a well-reasoned article on Ammoland.com. Vickers is not afraid to say that many people spend too much money on hardware that is poorly designed and may be “useless”. Equipment Selection Advice from Larry VickersIn every class I teach, I hear and see students expressing their frustration that certain things about their gear or shooting in general don’t add up. Brownells Catalogs may look great, but many of the parts and equipment on the market are either: a) useless, b) poorly-designed, c) of questionable worth or d) dangerous. Some people don’t have the common sense to not mess with a potentially life-saving device. Some of these same people will go on the Internet to complain about how their modified firearm no longer works and is therefore junk. They will also recommend to other shooters the parts and modifications that they have used to transform their gun into a range toy. This is something I see in my classes, and by the lunch break on the first day, the flaws in the equipment are obvious to everyone in the class and most importantly to the owner. The shooter may have lost some money, but he also learned a valuable lesson. Be careful what you read online about firearms modifications. There is no substitute for testing out your equipment on the range. Internet is a great place to learn about guns, gear and shooting. Learn about guns, gear and shooting at the range with well-thought out and useful training. This approach consistently produces results, and builds shooter confidence.
