2024 CMP Pistol Competition Rules, 27th Edition Copies of each of these rulebooks can be downloaded from the CMP Competition Rulebooks webpage at https://thecmp.org/competitions/cmp-competitions-rulebooks. Each rulebook’s complete text is available, along with a one-page document listing the changes. You can download electronic versions of the 2024 rulebooks to your electronic devices or print them out to keep in a notebook. In a few months, printed versions of these rulebooks are available for those who prefer the traditional hard copy format. The electronic version of a rule posted on our website will remain the official version. Magazine rule updates for AR and M1A Rifles
The 2024 rule will allow M16/AR15 type rifles, as well as M14/M1A type rifles, to have shorter 5- or 10-round magazines. This will benefit shooters in states that have restrictive magazine laws. NOTE: Competitors planning to take advantage of the rule change should be aware that shorter magazines for rifles must have brightly colored stripes visible at the bottom (see photo). This is to make it easy for Range Officers to see when these magazines have been inserted or removed. New Categories for Vintage Rifle Sniper Team Matches
A notable rule change for 2024 is the addition a new rifle class for the Vintage Sniper Rifle Team Match. This will allow teams of two to compete using sniper rifles manufactured between 1954 and 1976 during the Vietnam era. The CMP Games Rulebook includes “Guidelines on Preparing Vintage Sniper Rifles That Comply with Class A Viet Nam Era Vintage Sniper Rifle Regulations”. Distinguished Marksman Program For Shooters With Disabilities
The Distinguished Marksman Program is a newer CMP program that allows competitors with disabilities to use adaptive equipment and positions to complete EIC courses. Each rulebook contains specific rules on how competitors with disabilities and limitations can earn Distinguished Marksman EIC points. This program is a must for people with disabilities who are interested in marksmanship. Amy Cantu can be reached at 888-267-796 (toll free) or by email at [email protected]. The CMP rulebooks for this year no longer include the Range Officer scripts previously found in the rulebooks’ back pages. These Range Officer scripts can still be accessed through the rulebook postings on the CMP website. The rulebook listing includes links to “Range Officer Firing Procedures”. Downloadable versions of each Range Officer script are available for use on the range. This will save several dozen pages in the rulebooks, while still allowing Range Officers to have access to all range procedures and Range officer instructions.
