Odin’s workshop transforms the SAR9 Pistol

Have you ever found it difficult to buy a gift for someone else? It could be that they don’t want anything at all or won’t say what they want. It could be that the person has bought everything they want all year and nothing is left for special occasions. I can tell you I fall into at least one of these categories. Odin’s Workshop was able to help me change this. Odin’s workshop to the Rescue I had to work really hard to find something special to give my wife to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. I thought about a vacation, date night, and a new Bronco. Then I thought about getting her something that she would remember our special anniversary each time she saw or used it. So, I began to think about buying a new weapon. Nope, it’s not for me. My wife has been shooting for only a few years. It’s not that she dislikes it. She didn’t grow with it as some of us did. (Photo by Andy Grossman). Her first experience with a.22 LR was in the fifth grade. She didn’t start shooting again until about eight years after we got married. She fell in love with it immediately and loves shooting her CMMG banshee. She was checking her emails on her phone one day as we watched TV. She had seen a banner advertisement for a SAR9 pistol. She asked if the gun was good. I replied “Heck yeah!” She said she wanted one and I decided what I would get her at that moment. Combining Two Passions After a bit of patience, my wife’s SAR9 finally arrived at our FFL. The gun’s striker-action, 4.4-inch-long barrel, and less-than-1.5-inch-wide would make it a great carry weapon. It’s also a plus that the 17+1 payload can be used. The gun itself was only the first part of this story. I wanted to make it an anniversary gift. I immediately thought of modifying it to make it hers. How do I do it? After a few days of thinking about it, I finally figured out how to do it. As I mentioned before, my wife is only familiar with the firearms business for a few years. She is a passionate fisherman. She has been fishing ever since she was able to walk. She fishes just as much as I do. Why not combine them? Let’s Customize After contacting Odin’s Workshop, located in Keego Harbor Michigan, I said “Let’s Customize”. They are experienced in the gun building process. I knew that they were the right people for the job after seeing some of their past work. Odin’s workshop has been featured in several articles published by Athlon Outdoors. The business is owned and operated by a family, consisting of James (owner) and Cole. They are known for their cerakoting, laser engraving and other services. James specializes in design work and welding. He is also a gunsmith. Cole is responsible for prep, design and machining. James and I talked about my thoughts. (Photo by Andy Grossman). We were able, after this, to come up a concept. We all know, however, that concepts are just that. There are always going to be changes. The only thing I asked for was that the bass be largemouth. My wife loves to catch largemouth bass and is always on the lookout for that monster. The next reason is that I want to catch a largemouth. We rented a cottage on a lake for our honeymoon and fished all week and a bit. It was then that she caught her largest fish. It hangs on the wall of the cabin in the North. I left him to do his thing and be creative. Odin’s Workshop Magic Working with the Odin’s Workshop Magic One thing that Odin’s had to figure out was what to do about the grip. It had a great ergonomic grip. Remember, we wanted it to be hers. Odin’s hadn’t done a SAR previously, and from what I know, they were the first. They started by removing the ergonomics from the grip. Then, make the stippling as smooth as you can. Some concerns were raised. They weren’t sure if the polymer would still be thick enough for laser stippling again. It worked perfectly. They re-stippled both the fore and after grip. The theme was then incorporated. The frame was cerakoted so that it looked like it was under water, complete with vegetation and largemouth. The slide was cerakoted so that it looked like the horizon. Here is where we would put our fisherman. But that’s not all. The fisherman is made to look like he’s fishing from a boat. Odin’s made the fishing line, with a lure that wiggled along the slide into the grip and toward the mouth of the fish. They even made a small tackle box to go with her masterpiece. One for the gun and accessories. The brothers Odin did a great job! The Reveal (Photo by Andy Grossman). When I gave it her, she instantly fell in love. She asked me, “When can I shoot it?”. I replied, “Get all your gear and let’s get going.” This firearm performed flawlessly at the range. It didn’t really matter if it was Hornady Defense or steel, or FMJs (factory and reloads). It was unlike any recoil she or I had ever experienced. My wife said that it felt more like a muzzle-flip than a recoil in reverse. She said that it felt as if her body was absorbing a greater amount of recoil, and she didn’t have to fight to keep the weapon on target. I totally agree with her. She loves it. So much so that I had to buy one in stock. So, she could have a daily gun. Odin’s deserves a special thank you for making this anniversary so special.
